Overview
The Parks Technician II maintain and mow all City's developed and undeveloped parkland, facilities, right of way and beaches. This position requires the ability to train subordinates and operate various types of machinery to achieve beach maintenance standards. Parks Technician II requires knowledge of basic park maintenance functions to include best practices, irrigation repair and equipment maintenance and repair.
Responsibilities
• Collects litter/large debris/animal carcasses/tree limbs from beaches, facilities and right of ways
• Reports any standing water or foul odors in restroom area
• Sanitizes restrooms and restock toilet paper, soap and hand towels
• Empties trash cans on the beach into trash trucks
• Operates a zero-turn riding mower, standup mower, push mower, tractors in different terrains/slopes
• Safely load and unload mowers, and other equipment on trailers
• Operates gas. electric equipment to weed eat and/or edge around sidewalks, fences, trees, shrubs, poles, signs, guardrails, inlets, meter boxes, alleys, blow grass clippings and other miscellaneous debris
• Conducts minor repairs to equipment offsite
• Abides by City and Department rules and regulations on operating city equipment
• Hooks up and detach trailer by themselves and make sure the brake lights are operating properly
• Operators must be able to negotiate turns in a safe manner without damaging trailer and tow hitch
• Drives passenger vehicles, utility vehicles and maintenance equipment safely
• Removes graffiti using chemicals or pressure washer
• Applies paint to walls, ceilings, poles, playgrounds, meter boxes, accessories and any other assigned location using a roller/paint brush
• Excavates land using shovels, augers and backhoe
• Installs new or transplant plant life such as trees, shrubs, flowers, application and distribution of compost and mulch by hand, hand tools or powered equipment
• Leads assigned staff to complete tasks assigned by Park Operations Technician III and Park Operation Supervisor
• Maintains preventative maintenance logs and submissions for fleet repairs
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
• Non -Exempt - Full-Time
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma/GED
• Two (2) years of experience
Certifications, Licenses or other requirements

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
