A criminal summons or an arrest warrant may be issued based upon a finding of probable cause in the application. Commissioners determine probable cause for charges on police on‑view arrests, decide pre‑trial release, accept bail bond money and other forms of surety, and may serve in the capacity of consideration of civil petitions for interim peace orders and protective orders when courts are closed. Commissioners are often the first impression of the court for the public and those doing business with the court system.EducationBachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.Residency RequirementsMust reside in the county or a contiguous county. Baltimore City residents are eligible only for the Baltimore City District Court. For a list of contiguous counties, see & TrainingCPR certified (must renew every 24 months)NCIC CN5 certified to conduct criminal record checks (must renew every 24 months)Work LocationsWork is performed in district court buildings, police stations, or central booking facilities.
