The McPherson Police Department is seeking highly motivated people with a desire to serve our community as full‑time Police Patrol Officers. Serving as a Police Patrol Officer is challenging but offers many opportunities for professional growth, with advancement within the Patrol, Operations, and Administration Bureaus, and specialization in areas such as Investigations, Bike Patrol, Special Response Team, Crisis Negotiations Team, D.A.R.E., School Resource Officer, and Social Media Team.Patrol Officers work 12‑hour shifts with rotating weekends off, rotating between day and night shifts every four months. The position requires work on weekends, holidays, overtime, and court appearances.ResponsibilitiesEnforce local, state, and federal laws; investigate crimes and traffic collisions.Enforce traffic regulations and assist the public with safety guidance.Serve on special opportunities such as Bike Patrol, Special Response Team, Crisis Negotiations Team, Firearms Instruction, D.A.R.E., School Resource Officer, Social Media, and other selected units.Participate in training and administrative duties as required.RequirementsU.S. citizen, 21 years of age or older.High‑school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred.Clean criminal record, without Brady/Giglio material.Vision correctable to 20/20.Pass written test, physical agility test, background investigation, oral interview, and additional conditional job testing.Residency within 35 miles of the McPherson city limits to be established within six months of hire.Willingness to work rotating 12‑hour shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and court appearances.Salary InformationEntry level: $23.04 hourly (actual starting rate depends on experience).
