The successful candidate will have a passion for public safety and a commitment to protecting our community. In this role, you will be responsible for patrolling the community, responding to calls for service, and enforcing criminal and traffic laws. The ideal candidate will thoroughly know state and local laws and the accepted practices of delivering police service.Additionally, you will be expected to maintain regular and predictable attendance and efficiently respond to critical incidents. You must write comprehensive reports, communicate orally, and render credible testimony in a court of law.Work without direct supervision and possess training and proficiency in firearms, defensive tactics, and less lethal force equipment. You must also have a good knowledge of human relations techniques and be able to identify and solve community problems while promoting crime prevention.Key ResponsibilitiesPatrol the community to deter and detect criminal activity.Respond to calls for service.Document allegations of a crime; protect persons and property; and advise on preventative practices.Perform preliminary and continued investigations (traffic and criminal).Search for and collect physical evidence; interview witnesses and victims.Enforce traffic laws by monitoring traffic movements visually and with radar or laser, contact violators, and issue citations or warnings.Enforce criminal laws by arrest or non-arrest dispositions.Testify in court.Answer emergency and non-emergency calls for service.Investigate crimes by obtaining witness statements, collecting evidence, and processing crime scenes.Write reports on alleged criminal incidents, follow-up investigations, arrests, juvenile records, and motor vehicle crashes.Prepare criminal charges.Serve warrants.Handle prisoners, including booking, transporting, and jailer duties.Respond to citizens' requests for special attention and traffic enforcement in problem areas.Efficiently use discretionary patrol time for self-initiated work.Maintain readiness to respond to critical incidents.Protect the constitutional rights of citizens.Maintain regular and predictable attendance.Additional DutiesDirect traffic at accident scenes, malfunctioning traffic signals, and community events.Identify and solve community problems; promote crime prevention.Act as bailiff in Mayor's Court.Promote police-community relations through interaction at homeowner's association meetings, school events, and block parties.Other duties as assigned.QualificationsMust be a United States citizen.Must be at least 21 years of age.Have a valid driver's license.Successfully passed the physical agility test.Submit to a complete background investigation, polygraph, and psychological, medical, and drug screenings.Each applicant must also have one (1) of the following:Received a four-year Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in any field by date of hire.Served four years of active duty in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Space Force, or Coast Guard by the time of appointment.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential functions of the job satisfactorily.
