Peer Mentors schedule and coordinate appointments to address needs, such as guiding them to Advisors, certifying officials, or relevant resources. They field inquiries regarding Military‑Affiliated services, opportunities, and other student requirements, navigate Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) education benefits, FAFSA applications, and forms, represent the Peer Mentoring program at campus and off‑campus events, and are trained in GI Bill certification processes.Responsibilities Work with students one‑on‑one to address their concerns.Connect students with on‑campus, community, state, and federal services they may need.Answer questions about services, opportunities, or needs.Review student classes and degree programs.Know VA rules and regulations on approved courses.Assist the SCOs with enrollment certifications.Follow up on student concerns.Set appointments with students who may want to meet.Staff Peer Mentor booths at events when necessary.Call students to follow up on questions, appointments, etc.Create small posters and handouts when necessary.Answer phones.Schedule appointments via Gmail calendar and Starfish.Make copies, scans, and prints of documents for staff.Review student records prior to meetings.Check in with supervisor at the beginning of shift to receive tasks or updated information.Other mentoring or office duties as assigned.Attend regular meetings and trainings scheduled by supervisor.Attend university training when appropriate (financial aid, studentsupport training, etc.).Assist with planning and executing events and programs and any additional duties assigned.Leadership development and participation as required.Required Qualifications Must have or can obtain a FAFSA Federal Work‑Study Card.Knowledge of VA and/or Military processes.Position contingent upon approval through the FAFSA work‑study program.Enrolled at least half‑time (6 or more credits).GPA 2.0 or higher.Work well with persons of diverse racial, ethnic, gender, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, and with individuals who are differently‑abled.Use email and calendar for communication and organizational purposes.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint).Interpersonal and communication skills.Customer service and interpersonal skills will be continually developed to better serve students and staff.Preferred Qualifications Organization skills.Experience with some form of GI Bill.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Team‑oriented.Autonomous and proactive.Physical Requirements Repetitive motion. Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or consistently to move objects, including the human body. Sitting most of the time.
