Physician - Primary Care (Sign-on Bonus & Education Debt Repayment)

The Veterans Health Administration was recruiting two experienced Board Certified/Board Eligible Primary Care Physicians for the Tomah VA Medical Center in Tomah, WI. This position provides comprehensive primary care for Veterans, including diagnosis, treatment, preventive care, emergency management, follow-up, specialty referrals, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Salary Note: Final compensation determined through the VA physician pay-setting process (Base Pay + Market Pay).

Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive outpatient primary care for Veterans.
  • Perform histories, physical examinations, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
  • Manage acute and chronic medical conditions.
  • Coordinate emergency treatment and transfers when necessary.
  • Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic testing.
  • Adjust medications and treatment plans.
  • Refer patients to specialists and coordinate home health services.
  • Document all patient care in the VA electronic medical record.
  • Serve as a consultant and supervising physician for physician assistants when appropriate.
  • Participate as a full member of the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Maintain BLS and ACLS certification and rotate as backup Medical Officer of the Day.

Basic Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited).
  • Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from an approved institution.
  • Current, full, unrestricted medical license in a U.S. State or Territory.
  • Completion of an approved residency program leading to board eligibility/certification.
  • English language proficiency.
  • Successful background investigation, credentialing, pre-employment physical, and drug screening.
  • Participation in the VA influenza vaccination program.

Preferred Experience:

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Primary Care specialty.
  • Experience using computerized electronic medical record systems.
  • Experience supervising advanced practice providers.
