Why does the job exist?
This position is responsible for coordinating accident notifications, insurance claims and other actions associated with loss prevention and risk management. This position will be responsible for conducting all loss prevention assessments for the Department. Additionally this position will serve as a procurement specialist for the Department to assist with invitation to bids, purchasing and other functions as needed. This position will serve as guide and backup to the financial specialists and also backup all functions in the Procurement Section of the Administrative Services Division.
How does it get done?
This position will provide appropriate training and training opportunities for all staff and to manage the Department's loss prevention program. As the loss prevention coordinator, the position is responsible that the Department is adhering to the loss prevention plan and coordinate with the Risk Management Division of the General Services Department to coordinate with appropriate agencies to manage all loss prevention, accident notifications, claims and associated required action. Other responsibilities will include procurement functions, including but not limited to, purchasing, invitation to bids, sole source, and disposition of public property. This position will also provide purchasing guidance and assistance to all purchasing agents and program staff to ensure that goods and services are procured properly and efficiently according to state statutes and internal policies.

The customers for the position are all Department of Wildlife staff, program, and executive managers and external vendors.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience working within the perimeters of NMSA Chapter 13, Public Purchases and Property, and NMAC Title 1 General Administration, Chapter 4 State Procurement. Experience with loss prevention, procurement, contract management, purchasing and/or accounts payable auditing is preferred.
Expertise with SHARE and Microsoft 365 platforms is ideal with analytical and critical thinking capabilities, interpersonal and collaborative skills, and written and verbal communication skills.
Customer service experience needed.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and five (5) years directly related experience as it relates to the essential duties of the classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling nine (9) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. High volume workload and stressful situations due to deadlines and multiple demands. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Occasional weekend hours and working in an outdoor setting.
