TITLE: Crossing Guard

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Applicants MUST be able to work between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. AND 3 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (each week)
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must pass vision and hearing test and/or other required examinations including drug screening
  • Must be accessible before and during school hours by phone to respond to scheduling changes
  • Pass a background check
  • Report to assignments on time and perform assigned duties for the full duration
  • Be willing to work in inclement weather and/or other adverse conditions
  • Be willing and able to wear issued uniform
  • Have reliable transportation to report to assigned locations within a 1-hour notification period
REPORTS TO: School principal and Coordinator of School Safety.

SUPERVISES: N/A

JOB GOAL: To direct pedestrian crossings and ensure the safety of children and school community members while remaining alert to traffic hazards. This job requires punctuality and remaining at work location until the conclusion of assignment for when other direction is provided by the building principal.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • This position provides safe crossing of school children, pedestrians, and control of traffic at designated crossings within Kent County, Maryland
  • Contacts include school children and other pedestrians to issue instructions, such as when to proceed /stop; police officers to report motorists who do not comply with traffic laws; and school officials to report children and motorist who fail to obey instructions of the employees
  • Direct, routine assistance is provided to pedestrians and/or vehicles at busy intersections
  • Work is performed independently with periodic checks by police officers at the crossing to which the employee is assigned
  • Typically work hours are between the hours of 8:15 a.m. and 9 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. and 3:45 p.m


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Daily as assigned.

SALARY LANE: $16 hourly

BARGAINING UNIT: N/A
