The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for a detention deputy. Detention deputies will earn competitive wages plus benefits.The work of a detention deputy involves responsibility for the protection of life and property, and the safe housing of local, state and federal prisoners housed in the Jefferson County jail. Duties normally consist of intake, classification, housing, cell checks, and facilitating various programs. Detention deputies may also be assigned duties as court bailiffs and transport officers. Work involves an element of personal danger. The employee must exercise sound independent judgment under stress and maintain a sufficient level of physical and mental fitness and preparedness. Applicants will be required to work any or all days of the week including weekends and holidays.
