Probationary Corrections Officer
Elkhart County Sheriff's Office is hiring for a Probationary Corrections Officer position. The hiring range is $26.52/hour, increasing to $27.85/hour upon completion of training, with a final range of $27.85-41.24/hour based on education and experience. Benefits include health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, a free primary care health clinic, supplemental insurance and employee assistance program, retirement pension and deferred compensation 457b, 14 paid holidays annually, generous paid vacation and sick time, and eligibility for the public service loan forgiveness program.
The position requires variable shifts and is located within Elkhart County. Travel requirements are within the county, and applicants must complete a driving page on the application.
The job summary includes intake and release functions, floor monitoring, serving at the control counter, preparing and filing reports, supervision of inmates, and adherence to universal precaution standards for blood borne diseases. This is an entry-level position with opportunities for career development within the Sheriff's Office.
Job requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver's license, being at least 18 years old and a US citizen, passing a polygraph or CVSA, background check (criminal and credit), and drug screen, and a personal interview.
