Duties

Develops policies and provides analysis, advice, and assistance on a wide range of policy issues primarily dealing with hostage taking and wrongful detention.

Serves as a technical authority and subject matter expert within the USG on policy issues related to diplomatic efforts to secure the release of Americans held hostage or wrongfully detained abroad.

Represents S/SPEHA and the Department at National Security Council chaired interagency meetings on the full range of national security hostage and wrongful detention policy issues.

Directs and oversees the work of a team of full-time, federal Foreign and Civil Service, professional and administrative employees.

Gives advice, guidance, and instruction to employees on both technical and administrative matters.
