Gate Operator

Location: Sumner, Washington Pay: $19.75 Job Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

The Gate Operator is responsible for managing the entry and exit of trucks, trailers, visitors, and employees at the Yusen Logistics facility. This role serves as the first point of contact for drivers and visitors, ensuring compliance with company policies, safety procedures, and security protocols. The Gate Operator maintains accurate records, verifies documentation, and coordinates with warehouse and transportation teams to ensure efficient traffic flow and operational excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Monitor and control all inbound and outbound traffic entering and exiting the facility.
  • Verify driver credentials, shipping documentation, bills of lading, and appointment schedules.
  • Check trailers and containers for seal integrity and document discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate gate logs and records using warehouse management systems and other tracking software.
  • Communicate effectively with drivers, warehouse personnel, transportation coordinators, and management regarding arrivals, departures, and delays.
  • Direct drivers to assigned loading docks, staging areas, and parking locations.
  • Conduct routine inspections of trailers, containers, and yard areas as required.
  • Ensure all visitors and contractors follow facility access control procedures.
  • Monitor security cameras and report suspicious activities, safety concerns, or unauthorized access.
  • Assist with yard management activities and coordinate trailer movements when necessary.
  • Respond to emergency situations according to company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience in logistics, transportation, warehouse operations, security, or gatehouse operations preferred.
  • Experience working with transportation management systems (TMS), yard management systems (YMS), or warehouse management systems (WMS) is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong customer service and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Knowledge of transportation and shipping documentation preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions when required.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to use computer systems, telephones, radios, and other office equipment.
Work Environment
  • Distribution center, warehouse, and gatehouse environment.
  • Exposure to moving vehicles, trailers, forklifts, and outdoor conditions.
  • May require overtime, weekends, holidays, and flexible scheduling based on operational needs.
