General Description
The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating and dispatching water trucks and lowboys to ensure efficient transportation of materials and equipment. This role requires a strong understanding of construction logistics, equipment operations, and scheduling to maintain smooth project execution.
Key Duties
Logistics & Dispatching:
- Coordinate the movement of materials and equipment to job sites.
- Plan efficient routes and schedules for deliveries and hauling.
- Assign and manage lowboy tractor-trailers, anticipating needs and minimizing empty trips.
- Assign water trucks to job sites based on project demands.
Communication & Coordination:
- Work closely with Foremen and Superintendents to coordinate equipment pickup and drop-off times.
- Partner with Superintendents and Foremen to understand project requirements.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal teams and external customers.
Personnel & Compliance:
- Monitor drivers' time.
- Track fuel prices and optimize fuel usage.
- Obtain bulk water permits and report usage to relevant counties.
- Order DOT overweight permits for North Carolina and South Carolina.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate records and reports related to dispatching operations.
- Adapt to changing job site requirements and provide real-time solutions.
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet company needs.
Qualification Requirements
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Proven experience in dispatching, logistics, or a related field.
- CDL experience preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to coordinate with Division Managers and field teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to proactively address issues.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Demands
- Frequent sitting and standing for at least 8 hours per shift.
- Ability to stoop, bend, crouch, and lift up to 50 lbs frequently, and up to 150 lbs with assistance.
- Maintain constant alertness to construction site activities and equipment movement.
- Walk frequently on uneven terrain in varying weather conditions.
- Safely climb on and off heavy equipment as needed.
