Position Summary
Career Readiness Learning Objectives:
Professionalism: The student will demonstrate dependability in the work schedule as well as considerable attention to detail in maintaining databases and inventories critical to the work.
Technology: The student will use a range of technology, such as Photography, Photoshop and Excel, to maintain and supplement archival work and inventories.
This position is in the Department of History & Archaeology and the Collins Institute.
-responsible student to independently maintain open hours in the Museum
Gallery
-student needs a number of skills connected with the Museum and its
antiquities, including training in handling the collection, in being a docent for
visitors, in maintaining a database of the collection
-student must be able to work-up and aid in teaching K-12 children in
outreach activities
-student needs to help set up and organize museum trips/activities/events
(for K-12 and college students)
Required Qualifications
-student should have background in education or experience working with K-12 schoolchildren
-student needs organizational skills to manage Museum open hours
independently and keep database updated
-student needs a good, responsible work ethic and be able to assure safety
and security of Museum and its collection, especially handling of materials
-student needs good communication skills
-student needs good computer skills to maintain museum Facebook page
and database
-student needs to be open to training, working with director, and working
with the public
Preferred Qualifications
-work experience with K-12 students
-major in education
-creative abilities to develop teaching plans and activities for museum visits;
ability to help teach classes in museum
Physical Demands
-responsible and mindful awareness of fragility of antiquities in handling
collection and navigating between exhibit cases and objects not in cases
-mindfulness of not being clumsy in Museum
