Summary

EMS Dispatcher EMTThe EMS Dispatcher EMT is responsible for answering and triaging emergency and non-emergency calls using the Medical Priority Dispatch System and Fire Service Communications System. This role involves collecting and processing critical information, providing pre-arrival and post-dispatch instructions, and coordinating the deployment of appropriate resources. The Dispatcher ensures communication efficiency and responder safety under the supervision of an EMS Communications Supervisor. This position may function within the communications center or in the field, completing all required documentation and supporting EMS operations while representing University Hospital and EMS in a professional and positive manner.ResponsibilitiesAnswers and triages emergency and non-emergency calls using the Medical Priority Dispatch System and Fire Service Communications SystemCollects, verifies, and processes essential caller information quickly and accuratelyProvides pre-arrival and post-dispatch instructions to callers as appropriateDispatches and coordinates EMS resources to ensure timely and appropriate responseMonitors all communications to maintain operational efficiency and ensure the safety of responding unitsOperates under the supervision of an EMS Communications SupervisorPerforms duties in both the communications center and field settings, as neededCompletes all required reports and documentation accurately and in a timely mannerSupports the overall efficiency of EMS operations through effective communication and coordinationRepresents University Hospital and EMS in a professional, courteous, and positive manner at all timesQualificationsExperience & Skills Requirements:Minimum of two (2) years of EMS experience requiredAt least one (1) year of public safety dispatching experience preferredSpanish-speaking ability is desirableMust pass a medical evaluation and respirator fit test, and be able to wear an N95 mask in accordance with PEOSHA standardsCredential Requirements (must be current, active, and in good standing):Required Certifications:NJ Basic Telecommunicator CertificationNJ Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) Certification or an equivalent certification approved by EMS Department ManagementEmergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification from one of the following:National RegistryNJ, PA, NY, DE, MD, VA, WV, DC, or any Atlantic EMS Council member stateOR NJ Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic (MICP) or Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (MICN) certificationAmerican Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare ProvidersICS Level 100 CertificationNIMS Awareness CertificationAdditional Certification Requirements:NJ EMT reciprocity must be obtained within six (6) months of hireMedical Priority Dispatch System (MPDS) certification must be obtained within one (1) year of hireWhat We OfferMedical & Prescription Drug CoverageDental & Vision InsuranceHealth Savings Account (HSA) & Flexible Spending Account (FSA)Short- & Long-Term Disability InsurancePension PlanPet InsuranceEmployee Assistance Program (EAP)Professional DevelopmentCompensation (NJ Job Transparency Law)In compliance with New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly range for this position is TE/1825: Probationary Rate $27.83 - Job Rate $28.33- Two (2) Year Rate $29.18.
