    Requirements

    MOS Code: 66S (Army), 001265 (Navy), 4N011B (Air Force)

    Education and Experience : High School Diploma, GED or higher and graduation from an accredited program for medical assistants.

    Licenses and Certificates : Texas Class C Driver's License or equivalent from another state.

    General Purpose

    Under direction, provide assistance in clinic settings and assist the nurse with examinations and treatments of patients. Perform responsible clerical duties including front desk registration and answering phone calls.

    Typical Duties

    Follow well defined procedures/protocols to facilitate clinic services and assist clinicians during examinations. Prompt patients to answer health questions and complete forms; reinforce basic information about hygiene, birth control, sexual education, nutrition, etc. Prepare room for examination; provide technical assistance during examination, anticipating instrument needs. Performs patient measurements, tests and screening such as blood pressure, sputum, hearing, vision, urinalysis, pregnancy, TB, iron, glucose, lead, etc. Performs routine adult venipuncture and routine adult and pediatric capillary sticks. Dispense medications and administer injections, including immunizations, as ordered by physician verbally, in writing or by standing delegation orders.

    Clean, set up & restock exam rooms; sterilize instruments; inventories and order supplies. Maintain logs, files and records; collect clinical data and compile statistics. Assist with registration of patients and answer telephone calls. Provide patient education. Schedule appointments and diagnostic testing, clarify referrals and re-verify appointments for various clinic programs.

    Prepare infectious waste for disposal. Prepare reports and document laboratory results in patient records. Collect and record patient payments, complete deposit form and count receipts to prepare bank deposit. Answer telephone, greet clinic customers, assist in routine clerical duties, and operate common office machines including computers.
