Work Schedule Irregular Schedule; varying hours.
Anticipated Hiring Range $30.00 - $40.00 per hour.
Varies by assignment and salary is commensurate with experience.
Position Summary The Piano Technician will be primarily responsible for tuning the pianos utilized at performances and events in the College of Liberal & Creative Arts facilities. The Piano Technician will make minor adjustments to the tension of a piano's strings, aligning the intervals between their tones so that the instrument is in tune
Position Information Piano maintenance and troubleshooting
- Assessing the physical status of the piano.
- Evaluate the sound quality by playing the instrument.
- Tuning pianos by tightening or loosening strings with a tuning hammer.
- Conducting post-tuning sound assessments.
- Ensuring the artist is satisfied with the sound quality

Minimum Qualifications Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to tune, regulate and voice a piano to exact specifications; ability to inspect and diagnose problems, and make minor repairs to pianos and related instruments; ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
A thorough knowledge of the principles of design, construction and mechanical operation of pianos; ability to tune, regulate and voice a piano to the exact tonal qualities and touch desired by various individual pianists; and ability to overhaul and rebuild pianos.

Two years of experience in tuning and repairing pianos, harpsichords, and related instruments; as well as two years of experience in overhauling and rebuilding pianos. Completion of a formal training program which provides the individual with the knowledges and abilities required of the position may be substituted for the two years of general tuning and repairing experience.
Preferred Qualification - Ability to tune, regulate, and voice a piano to exact tonal qualities and touch desired by various individual pianists; ability to inspect and diagnose problems, and make minor repairs to pianos; ability to overhaul and rebuilding pianos.
- Ability to function harmoniously in a creative environment involving student and professional musicians.
- Ability to read and write English at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
- Ability to maintain repair and inventory records on a Macintosh desktop computer.
- In addition to the experience requirement, a degree in Music or a closely related field is desired
