Job SummaryIncumbent is supervised by Director of Student Life and Development and led by Associate Director of Club Sports and Recreation. Incumbent is responsible and accountable to the CSU Long Beach Club Sports and Recreation Department and the Division of Student Affairs to coach various club sports. Incumbent may act only in those areas in which they have assigned by the Club Sports and Recreation Department. A Club Sport team is first and foremost a student organization to be administered by elected student leaders. The Coach will interface with the Club Sports leadership and Club Sports & Recreation Department.
Furthermore, the incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive and provide culturally sensitive services that enhance the quality of campus life. This position uses a student centered and equity minded approach in all communication and service efforts.
Key Responsibilities - Coaches Club Sports - Attends all practices and competitions for the entire duration of the competitive season and/or academic year. If unable to attend a practice or competition, s/he will call Club President as soon as possible. Ensures that the actions of the team members at practice, while competing, and during the entire duration of Club Sports and Recreation approved travel are in compliance with university guidelines. Enforce all eligibility requirements as stated by the league governing the sport I am coaching and the CSU eligibility requirements.

• Ability to independently handle multiple work unit priorities and projects.
• Excellent oral communication skills and effective interpersonal skills required. Incumbent must have experience processing, answering and following-up as needed with office mail, phone calls, and email and in-person visitors. Must be able to respond to complex inquiries from the public, residents, parents, prospective residents, CSULB employees and students. Due to telephone and in-person interactions, must possess the ability to understand, interpret and respond (orally and in writing) to a broad range of complex issues, procedures, policies, ideas, information, and instructions.
• Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships & communicate clearly & effectively with students, peers, administrators, staff, et. al.
• Skill in developing, implementing, and assuring compliance with office and University policies and procedures while maintaining good working relationships with staff at all levels within and external to the University.
• Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices, or procedures to define the problem or objective; identify concerns or factors, patterns, relationships; formulate logical and objective conclusions; and recognize alternatives and their implications.

• Ability to provide excellent customer service to student organizations, Campus community, vendors, and other outside agencies and adhere to policies from various agencies related to coaching. Skill in performing customer service in a polite and timely fashion.

Demonstrated skill in assisting and speaking with persons of various ages, socio-economic, cultural and/or education backgrounds.
• Ability to coordinate, organize and demonstrate command of a complex and continuously changing array of information, dates, places, and people in a systematic way in order to optimize efficiency and minimize duplication of effort in the process of completing administrative support projects.
• Skill in working in a team environment in a collaborative manner with all levels of organization.

Education and ExperienceEquivalent to six months of experience performing related support services for an instructional program.

CompensationThe salary range for this classification is $21.23 to $30.36 per hour.
Time BaseHourly/intermittent on call temporary position. Temporary appointments may be cancelled at any time. Successful candidates may be appointed for a few days and up to one (1) year depending on the assignment. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
