    Temporary Adult Sports Official

    (Job Code: 9426)

    Casual non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than twenty-five (25) hours per week and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30).

    The City of Sunnyvale is seeking self-motivated, energetic, responsible individuals to officiate Adult Volleyball matches. Incumbents must possess a high level of knowledge of the regulations of volleyball and work without direct technical supervision.

    Under minimal supervision, a person in this position will officiate adult league volleyball matches under current regulations.

    Essential Job Functions

    (May include, but are not limited to, the following):
    • Officiates adult volleyball matches
    • Enforce all policies and procedures including safety related items.
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Maintain an appropriate appearance (staff shirt is required) for meeting with the public.
    • Communicate with supervisor regarding problems or concerns.
    • Other related duties as required.
    WORKING CONDITIONS
    Position requires prolonged standing, running, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The need to lift, drag and push equipment weighing up to 40 pounds may also be required. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodation.

    Minimum Qualifications

    SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
    • Minimum age is 18 years old
    • A thorough understanding of current volleyball rules.
    • An understanding and concern for safety in regard to facilities, equipment, and rules.
    • Understanding of municipal recreation philosophy as it relates to sports.
    • Ability to communicate effectively.
    • Highly proficient in areas related to customer service.
    • Able to work with minimal direction and supervision.
    Licenses and Certificates
    Possession and continued maintenance of a valid class C CA driver's license and a safe driving record or the ability to supply alternate transportation as approved by the appointing authority
