    Through academic affiliations with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), the University of Southern California (USC), and the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Sciences (CDU), DHS hospitals are training sites for physicians completing their Graduate Medical Education in nearly every medical specialty and subspecialty. In addition, to its direct clinical services, DHS also runs the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Agency and the County's 911 emergency response system, as well as Housing for Health and the Office of Diversion and Re-entry, each with a critical role in connecting vulnerable populations, including those released from correctional and institutional settings to supportive housing.

    DEFINITION
    Under immediate supervision, operates magnetic resonance imaging scanners to obtain routine images of delicate anatomical structures for physicians to diagnose pathological and traumatic disorders.

    Essential Job Functions

    Performs a variety of routine head, neck, spine, thorax, abdomen, pelvis , vascular, and musculoskeletal imaging procedures.

    Selects appropriate imaging techniques and operates console and peripheral hardware and software.

    Selects and computes machine settings to compensate for such variances as patient size, age, gender, and tissue density.

    Screens patients for safety and informs the patient concerning the procedure.

    Performs venipuncture procedures, as required.

    Transfers, positions, and instructs patients in preparation for procedures.

    Receives and reviews physician's request for imaging procedure and identifies the patient.

    Inspects images for quality and completeness, prepares and maintains records and files of procedures, and makes copies of images when requested.

    Elicits the cooperation of patients by explaining the procedure, and comforts those who fear magnetic resonance examination by providing assurance.

    Reviews and complies with pertinent patient history, physical examinations and supporting clinical data to facilitate diagnostic results.

    Maintain continuing education units in MRI techniques for required certification.

    Performs appropriate quality assurance procedures, tests, and measurements.

    On a continuous basis, insures equipment is functioning properly, and advises supervisor of problems .

    Requirements

    SELECTION REQUIREMENTS:

    TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

    Graduation from an accredited* magnetic resonance imaging training program.

    LICENSE :

    - Registration in Magnetic Resonance Imaging by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).**

    - OR -

    - American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT)** (-AND- completion of a 12 month, or longer, course in magnetic imaging technology which included a clinical training component) is required.

    - A California Venipuncture Certificate** that allows venous access (must be obtained within four months of appointment).

Provide the title of your required license, the certificate number, date of issue, date of expiration and the name of the issuing agency for the required license as specified in the Selection Requirements AND/OR applicants must attach a legible photocopy of the license/certificate issued at the time of filing or s end via email to baguila@dhs.lacounty.gov within 7 calendar days of filing your application online.

    The required license and/or certificate MUST be current and unrestricted; a conditional, provisional, probationary or restricted license and/or certificate will NOT be accepted.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

    Additional credit will be given to applicants who possess the following desirable qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Radiology Technology or Radiology Science or a closely related field from an accredited* college or university.**
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate issued by the American Heart Association.**
    • Post registration experience operating magnetic resonance imaging scanners to obtain routine images of delicate anatomical structures to diagnose pathological and traumatic disorders.

    PHYSICAL CLASS III - Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

    * An accredited magnetic resonance imaging training program and/or college or university is defined as a program or curriculum that is accredited or approved by a national or regional accrediting agency, commission, or organization.

    **In order to receive credit for any college course work, or any type of college degree, such as an Associate’s degree, Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, completion of a certificate program, certificate/ license/registration under the selection requirements and/or desirable qualifications, you must include a legible copy of the official diploma, official transcripts, official letter from the accredited institution which shows the area of specialization; or official license/certificate/registration with your application at the time of filing, or s end via email to baguila@dhs.lacounty.gov within 7 calendar days of filing your application online.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

    EXAMINATION CONTENT
    This examination will consist of an evaluation of experience and education based upon application information, desirable qualifications, and supplemental questionnaire, weighted 100%.

    Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on this examination to be added to the eligible register.

    ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:
    Applications will be processed on an "as-received" basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.

    The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.

    NO PERSON MAY COMPETE IN THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY TWELVE (12) MONTHS.

    SPECIAL INFORMATION :
