    FIELD PREP I/II


    ADULT SPORTS PROGRAM

    The City of Concord's Recreation Services Department is seeking people to work for the City's Adult Sports Program. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies at Willow Pass Community Center, and also establish an eligibility list to fill future positions as they become available. Salary is negotiable based on experience:
    • Field Prep I: $16.80 - $19.01/hour with no experience
    • Field Prep II: $17.65 - $19.97/hour with minimum 2 seasons experience
    Adult Sports Program
    The City of Concord offers a variety of recreational activities for adults including a robust sports program. Residents can play bocce ball at various courts, chicago ball in a co-ed league, cornhole at Willow Pass Community Center, flag football, and tennis. The City boasts one of the largest adult softball leagues in the area, serving over 250 teams running year-round at Willow Pass Park. We are also the home of one of the largest pickleball complexes in Northern California with 14 dedicated pickleball courts available for all ages and skill levels.

    What you will be doing:
    This position works primarily at the Willow Pass Park located at 2748 E Olivera Road, grooming and maintaining softball fields for our adult league and a range of adult tournaments.

    The Field Prep II is distinguished from the Field Prep I in that the Field Prep II is more experienced and works at a higher level of independence. The Field Prep I learns to perform the duties that the Field Prep II performs independently.

    All positions are part time, limited service and must be able to work before 6:00 p.m. Hours and schedule may vary weekly based on scheduled games.

    SELECTION PROCESS

    Conviction History: If you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you have received a conditional job offer. If a conflict exists, you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict, except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances. Having a conviction history does not automatically preclude you from a job with the City of Concord.

    Examples of duties include, but are not limited to

    • Watering and dragging the infield with a groomer or manual drag
    • Hand raking around bases, home plate and pitching rubbers
    • Removing and disposing of debris on fields and in dugouts
    • Chalking foul lines, batter's box, etc. as required for play
    • Painting foul lines on turf areas
    • Transporting, receiving and sharing the use of recreational equipment and supplies
    • Monitoring equipment inventories and recommending procurement of items as needed
    • Inspecting program areas and equipment and recommending maintenance and repair as needed
    • Demonstrating cooperative behavior with colleagues, supervisors and the public at all times
    • Other duties as assigned


    Qualifications

    Knowledge of:
    • The proper use of safety equipment when performing tasks
    • The operation and minor maintenance of various vehicles and equipment used in grounds maintenance work
    • Softball, baseball or related sports
    Ability to:
    • Use and operate necessary equipment including a field groomer
    • Use and operate safety equipment when performing tasks
    • Prepare and mark fields properly for level and type of play
    • Work cooperatively with colleagues and the public
    • Follow written and verbal directions
    • Communicate effectively in English using both verbal and written skills
    • Provide information to the public
    • Work and think independently and act with sound judgment
    • Manage time well and work within time constraints
    • Be flexible and perform other duties as assigned

    FIELD PREP I
    Education: None required.

    Experience: No experience required. Softball experience is desirable.

    FIELD PREP II

    Education: None required.

    Experience: Some experience in the grooming and maintenance of ball fields. Landscaping, groundskeeping, or similar experience may substitute. Softball experience is desirable.

    Other

    A California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment. Must successfully clear a fingerprint check.
