    The Position

    CONTINUOUS

    The Board of Supervisors have authorized the following future salary increases for this classification:

    5% on July 1, 2024 | 5% on July 1, 2025

    Bargaining Unit: Local 856 - Health Services Unit

    Contra Costa County Health Services Department is recruiting individuals on a continuous basis to fill entry-level Physical Therapist I positions. Therapists may be assigned to the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and its Health Centers or the California Children Services (CCS) Programs located throughout the County.

    Physical Therapist I is an entry-level classification requiring no experience. Incumbents in this classification perform a full range of general therapy treatments while developing and learning the skills and knowledge necessary to apply more advanced and/or specialized treatments.

    Typical Tasks

    • Evaluates and plans physical therapy treatments in accordance with medical direction
    • Administers or supervises the administration of physical therapy treatments including but not limited to the following areas:
    • neuromuscular facilitation and reeducation
    • assistive orthotic and prosthetic device fabrication fitting and training
    • temporary splinting and gait training
    • bracing soft and bony tissue mobilization
    • manual and mechanical traction
    • hydrotherapy, cryotherapy, thermal therapy and massage
    • transcutaneous neuromuscular and electrical stimulation
    • Instructs patients in pain management, injury prevention, posture correction and body mechanics
    • Monitors and facilitates patients progress
    • Develops or directs development of special equipment
    • Provides and promotes excellent customer service for all internal and external customers
    • Explains medical recommendations with respect to physical therapy to patients and their families
    • Observes patient. reaction, keeps records and prepares required reports
    • Learns to perform specialized and advanced therapy treatments
    • Administers diagnostic and prognostic tests
    • Provides consultation and education relative to therapy treatment
    • Collaborates with other care providers to ensure proper patient treatment and follow-up
    • Secures and returns clinic supplies and equipment and maintains required records and statistics
    • Prepares reports relative to patient treatment, discharge planning and the evaluation of treatment services
    • Provides training and work direction to aides, assistants, interns and volunteers
    • Consults with other therapists as needed


    Minimum Qualifications

    License Required: Either 1) Possession and maintenance of a valid license as a Physical Therapist issued by the Physical Therapy Board of California, or 2) Graduation from an approved school of physical therapy and acceptance of an application to take the State of California Physical Therapy Licensing Examination. Continued employment under the latter requirement is dependent upon successfully passing the licensing examination that has been applied for.

    Certification: Must possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate issued by the American Heart Association or a CPR certification issued by the American Red Cross.

    Applicants must submit a copy of a valid License as a Physical Therapist issued by the Physical Therapy Board of California or proof of graduation from an approved school of physical therapy and acceptance of an application to take the State of California Physical Therapy Licensing Examination AND a completed supplemental questionnaire. An application submitted without a valid License, or proof of graduation, etc. and supplemental questionnaire will be considered incomplete and will therefore be disqualified.

    Selection Process

Applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.

    2. Training and Experience Evaluation : Candidates who clearly demonstrate that they possess the minimum qualifications will have their training and experience evaluated. The responses to the supplemental questions, at the time of filing, will be evaluated to determine each candidate's relevant education, training, and/or experience as presented on the application and supplemental questionnaire. (Weighted 100%)

    CONVICTION HISTORY

    DISASTER SERVICE WORKER
    All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
