    All Department of Health Services workforce members must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment.     DEFINITION:
    Positions allocable to this journey-level class typically report to a Medical Electronics Technician Working Supervisor, and are characterized by the performance of skilled maintenance and repair work on a variety of medical diagnostic and patient care electronic equipment at a County hospital, healthcare clinic, or facility.

    Essential Job Functions

    Maintains, repairs, tests, configures, and sets up medical electronic equipment such as defibrillators, electrocardiographs, electroencephalographs, electrosurgical units, pulse oximeters, and physiological monitoring, ultrasound, and therapeutic equipment.

    Maintains, repairs, tests, configures, and sets up electro-mechanical devices such as blood pressure measuring equipment, and infusion, syringe, and suction pumps.

    Maintains and repairs laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, microscopes, and slide stainers.

    Maintains and repairs other patient related electronic or electro-mechanical equipment.

    Operates and uses a variety of electronic test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, electrical safety analyzers, defibrillator analyzers, electrocardiograph simulators, electrosurgical analyzers, patient vital sign simulators, blood pressure analyzers, pulse oximeter analyzers, temperature simulators, frequency counters, and computers used for testing, maintenance, and calibration.

    Inspects electrical and electronic equipment in patient and non-patient care areas, and performs grounding and leakage tests to ensure compliance with safety regulations.

    Tests, troubleshoots, and repairs equipment interconnection wiring and cabling.

    Demonstrates and explains the correct operation of equipment.

    Requisitions and orders parts and supplies as needed.

    Keeps time, material, and service records.

    Maintains, repairs, and tests nurse call, paging, and intercom systems.

    Maintains, repairs, tests, and installs televisions and video monitors, associated cable hook-ups, and signal distribution devices in patient and non-patient care areas; and, installs and repairs closed-circuit television systems used for medical or patient safety purposes.

    Maintains and repairs wired and wireless medical telemetry devices and related equipment.

    Requirements

    SELECTION REQUIREMENTS :
    An Associate of Science degree* from an accredited institution, in Biomedical Electronics Technology, Electronics Technology, or a directly related field; or, equivalent military training -AND- three (3) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of medical and patient care electronic equipment, one (1) year of which must have been at the journey-level**.

    LICENSE:
    A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

    Physical Class III - Moderate :
    Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS :
    VISION:
    Vision and color perception must be adequate to effectively and safely perform essential job-related functions.

    Desirable Qualifications:
    • Experience with patient data networks
    • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

    **Journey-level experience is defined as possessing the required knowledge, skills, and training to perform a full-range and diversity of work independently and reliably. Positions at this level operate with fairly significant freedom from day-to-day supervision and need little or no guidance on such matters as selecting appropriate problem solving methods and techniques, locating appropriate regulations, or applying proper procedures to carry out work.

    Additional Information

    EXAMINATION CONTENT:
    This examination will consist of an oral interview covering Job Preparation, Knowledge and Skills, Oral Communication and Problem Solving weighted 100%.

    Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on this examination in order to be placed on the eligible register.

    ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:
    Applications will be processed on an "as-received" basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.

    The names of candidates receiving a passing score in the examination will be added to the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.

    NO PERSON MAY COMPETE IN THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY TWELVE (12) MONTHS.

    SPECIAL INFORMATION :
    Appointees may be required to work any shift including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
