    COVID-19 VACCINATION MANDATE :
    All Department of Health Services workforce members must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment.     The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) is the second largest municipal health system in the nation. Through its integrated system of 25 health centers and four (4) acute hospitals and expanded network of community partner clinics - DHS annually provides direct care for 600,000 unique patients, employs over 23,000 staff, and has an annual budget of over $6.9 billion.

    Through academic affiliations with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), the University of Southern California (USC), and the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Sciences (CDU), DHS hospitals are training sites for physicians completing their Graduate Medical Education in nearly every medical specialty and subspecialty. In addition to its direct clinical services, DHS also runs the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Agency and the County's 911 emergency response system, as well as Housing for Health and the Office of Diversion and Re-entry, each with a critical role in connecting vulnerable populations, including those released from correctional and institutional settings, to supportive housing.

    Supervising Clinic Nurse I
    Provides the full range of first level supervision to a group of nursing personnel in a clinic or emergency care unit.

    Supervising Staff Nurse I
    This position has the full-time shift responsibility for supervising nursing employees of an inpatient care unit or ward who provide direct patient care and other services.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Plans and directs the nursing activities in a unit and coordinates activities and care with the medical and other health services staff and with other facilities to provide prompt, quality patient care and services.
    • Interprets nursing philosophy, goals, policies and procedures governing patient care, security, safety, medications, treatments and other elements of the unit operation to employees, patients or others.
    • Prepares work schedules and daily assignments to nursing staff members to perform the various patient care tasks matching skills of staff and duties to be performed.
    • Reviews and formally evaluates employee performance; writes anecdotal notes on employee performance and counsels employees; interprets personnel and other applicable administrative policies to assigned employees.
    • Establishes priority for patient care, prepares and revises patient care schedules and observes for disruptions in the even flow of patients through the unit deciding and initiating corrective action as necessary.
    • Evaluates procedures periodically and revises them as necessary.
    • Investigates and prepares reports on accidents and other incidents involving patients, employees and visitors
    • Performs the duties of a registered nurse as needed.


    Requirements

    SELECTION REQUIREMENTS:
    To qualify, candidates must meet all of the following requirements:

    1. A license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.*

    -AND-

    2. Two years of experience as a registered nurse leading staff** in the provision of nursing care or services.

    -AND-

    3. Current certification in accordance with the American Heart Association's Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) Program.***

    Physical Class III - Moderate: Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

    LICENSE(S) AND CERTIFICATE(S) REQUIRED :
    A valid California Class C Driver's License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
    *To compete in this examination process, applicants must have a license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing- OR- have a license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by a State Government Board of Registered Nursing, within the United States of America.

    Required license(s) and/or certification(s) must be active and unrestricted, or your application will not be accepted. Additionally, in order to receive credit for license(s) and/or certification(s) in relation to any desirable qualifications, the license(s) and/ or certification(s) must be active and unrestricted.

    EXAMINATION CONTENT:
    This exam will consist of an evaluation of training and experience based upon application information weighted 100%.

    Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on this examination in order to be placed on the Eligible Register.

    ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:
    The names of the candidates receiving a passing grade on this examination will be placed on the Eligible Register and will appear in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of eligibility.

    No person may compete in this examination more than once every twelve (12) months.

    SPECIAL INFORMATION:
    Appointees may be required to work any shift, including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.

    Training and Experience Requirements
    **For this examination, lead experience is defined as assigning, coordinating, and reviewing the work, ensuring proper work methods are followed and providing technical assistance and training.

    Applicants claiming experience in a state other than California must attach a copy of their registered nurse license from that state to the application at the time of filing or within 15 calendar days from the application filing date. Applications submitted without the required evidence will be rejected.

    PLEASE NOTE: Applicants who have completed the exam process with a passing score will not be added to the Eligible Register list until they have obtained a license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.

    Please ensure the Certification/License Section is completed. Provide the title(s) of your required license(s), the number(s), date(s) of issue, date(s) of expiration and the name(s) of the issuing agency for each license as specified in the Selection Requirements.

    The original license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing and BLS certification must be presented during the selection process and/or prior to appointment.
