    COVID-19 VACCINATION:
    All Department of Health Services workforce members must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment.     Through academic affiliations with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), the University of Southern California (USC), and the Charles R. In addition to its direct clinical services, DHS also runs the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Agency and the County's 911 emergency response system, as well as Housing for Health and the Office of Diversion and Re-entry, each with a critical role in connecting vulnerable populations, including those released from correctional and institutional settings, to supportive housing.

    Supervising Clinic Nurse II

    This position has the responsibility for the supervision of nursing services in a clinic or emergency care unit.

    Supervising Staff Nurse II

    This position has the responsibility for providing 24-hour supervision of nursing activities in an assigned inpatient care unit or ward and performs professional nursing duties -OR- during a shift supervises nursing activities of an area consisting of several wards or other inpatient care units or wards.

    Essential Job Functions

    Establishes and makes adjustments to nursing schedules to distribute required nursing skills on one or more shifts and requests changes in staffing on the basis of changing ward census, workload and needs of patients.

    Supervises patient care delivery and nursing activities provided by the staff and collaborates with other disciplines and departments to provide care/services in assigned areas.

    Enforces and interprets regulatory requirements, nursing standards, goals, hospital and nursing policies and procedures governing patient care, security, safety, and unit operations.

    Reviews and updates policy and procedures for assigned areas and conducts staff meetings to disseminate information, policies, and changes in policies and/or directives.

    Evaluates and reviews evaluations of employee performance. Prepares formal answers to and recommends the adjustment of grievances and disciplinary action.

    Ensures that staff are qualified to work in the assigned unit, coordinating orientation of new staff, assessing and validating skill sets and coordinating in-service instruction and mandatory classes.

    Investigates and answers formal patient complaints, queries, and patient events and prepares reports and implements corrective action plans.

    Establishes and coordinates quality performance improvement activities.

    Manages and monitors budget and resource utilization to ensure compliance with established budget. Collaborates with other departments to obtain resources and equipment required to deliver care.

    Requirements

    SELECTION REQUIREMENTS:
    To qualify, candidates must meet all of the following requirements:

    1. A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.*

    -AND-

    2. Two years of experience as a registered nurse providing direct administrative and technical supervision** to nurses including registered nurses.

    -AND-

    3. Current certification in accordance with the American Heart Association's Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) Program.***

    LICENSE(S) AND CERTIFICATE(S) REQUIRED :
    • A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.*

    Applicant's must ensure the License and Certification Section of the application is completed. Provide the title(s) of your required license(s), the number(s), date(s) of issue, date(s) of expiration and the name(s) of the issuing agency for the required license as specified in the Selection Requirements.

    Required license(s) and/or certification(s) must be active and unrestricted, or your application will not be accepted. Additionally, in order to receive credit for license(s) and/or certification(s) in relation to any desirable qualifications, the license(s) and/ or certification(s) must be active and unrestricted.

    • A current, active certification in accordance with the American Heart Association's Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) Program.***

    Applicants MUST attach a legible photocopy of the required BLS certification to their application at the time of filing or within 15 calendar days from the application filing date. Applications submitted without the required evidence of BLS certification will be rejected.
    • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

    Physical Class III - Moderate: Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
    Training and Experience Requirements
    **For this examination, supervision must have included the planning, assigning, reviewing work of staff and evaluating employee performance.

    Applicants claiming experience in a state other than California must attach a copy of their registered nurse license from that state to the application at the time of filing or within 15 calendar days from the application filing date. Experience claimed without the required evidence of licensure will not be considered.

    The original license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing and BLS certification must be presented during the selection process and/or prior to appointment.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
    Credit will be given to applicants who possess the following desirable qualification:
    • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program.****
    • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited nursing program.****
    • Any additional experience in excess of the selection requirements.

    ****Be advised that in order to receive credit for the desired degree, you MUST include a legible copy of the official diploma and/or transcripts which shows the area of specialization, at the time of filing, or within fifteen (15) calendar days of filing online . Copies of official transcripts are accepted. Unofficial copies of transcripts are not considered and will not be accepted with your application.

    Additional Information

    EXAMINATION CONTENT :
    The examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience based upon application information and Desirable Qualifications, weighted 100%

    Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be placed on the eligible register.

    ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION :
    Applications will be processed on an "as-received" basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.

    The names of candidates receiving a passing grade on the examination will be placed on the eligible register and will appear in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of eligibility.

    No person may compete for this examination more than once every twelve (12) months.


    AVAILABLE SHIFT :
    Appointees may be required to work any shift, including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
