Bargaining Unit: Local 856 - Health Services UnitThe Contra Costa County Health Services Department is offering an excellent opportunity for qualified individuals interested in the Pharmacy Technician position. The department currently has six (6) vacancies in Detention Pharmacy located in Martinez, CA and multiple vacancies in Inpatient Pharmacy located at the Contra Costa County Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) in Martinez, CA. Appointees will be required to work weekends and travel to various locations within Contra Costa County.
Pharmacy Technicians assist Pharmacists in the preparation, packaging and distribution of medications and sterile parenteral products. Additional duties include storage and issuance of pharmaceutics material, supplies and equipment. Individual(s) appointed would either be assigned to the general Pharmacy Service program or to the I.V. Additive Program. In the general Pharmacy Services Program, Pharmacy Technicians order, receive, unpack, verify prices, prepare pricing labels and shelve incoming merchandise. They also fill orders and keep records of stock dispensed, deliver drugs and narcotics to the nurse's stations and deliver and pick-up medication orders to the pharmacy. In the I.V. Additive Program, Pharmacy Technicians prepare sterile parenteral preparations, update the computer profile, assist pharmacists in filling prescriptions and perform other tasks as required.

- Answering phone calls from nurses and providers; resolving problems under the direction of Pharmacist
- Assisting with maintaining accurate stock levels of drugs and supplies
- Restocking and troubleshooting medications in all automated dispensing cabinets, and Omnicells
- Performing mathematical calculations for special dose preparation and compounding
- Repackaging medications and maintaining accurate records

The eligible list established from this recruitment may remain in effect for six (6) months. Minimum QualificationsLicense Required: Candidates must possess a valid California motor vehicle operator's license. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator's license will be accepted during the application process.
Certificate: Candidates must possess and maintain throughout the duration of employment a valid Pharmacy Technician Registration issued by the California Department of Consumer Affairs Board of Pharmacy.
Substitution: Proof of application for a Pharmacy Technician Registration submitted to the California State Board of Pharmacy may be substituted for the required certificate. Applicants must possess a Pharmacy Technician Registration at time of appointment.
Special Requirements when assigned to Detention Facilities: must possess and maintain a Sheriff's Department background clearance.
