    About the University:

    California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) opened in 2002 as the newest campus in the California State University system.     About the Program:

    The Teacher Education Department offers a Bilingual Authorization that can be added to an Elementary (Multiple Subject), Secondary (Single Subject), or Education Specialist (Special Education) Credential Program. Completers of the Authorization can provide instruction in Dual Language (Spanish-English) classrooms, structured English immersion classrooms, and English mainstream classrooms.

    About the Position:

    Instructors to teach various courses in the Bilingual Authorization and prerequisite courses. Should be familiar with the history, policies, programs, practices, and research on bilingual education and bilingualism. Special emphasis is placed on policies impacting the establishment and implementation of various types of bilingual education programs; research-based theories and practices informing bilingual education; the relationship of culture and language in students served in bilingual programs; the impact of developing strong school-home connections on the academic success and well-being of bilingual students; use of young adult literature to explore socio-cultural experiences and historical political realities pertinent to the daily lives of Chicanx, Mexican-origin, and/or Latinx children and adolescents; use of a sociolinguist approach to the study of verbal and non-verbal elements of communicative appetence amongst Latinas/-os, including traditional patterns of communication and use of in the United States.

    Minimum Degree Requirements:

    Master’s Degree in Bilingual Education or a related field.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Master’s Degree in Bilingual Education or a related field.

      Experience in bilingual classrooms or bilingual extracurricular programs.

      Experience teaching in higher education.

      Experience teaching online either synchronously or asynchronously.



    • Applicants should demonstrate the commitment to effectively work with and engage a diverse student population and evidence of how they would successfully mentor minoritized students with special focus on Latinx, Black/African American, American Indian, and Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander students.



    Preferred Qualifications:

    • PhD, EdD, or ABD in Bilingual Education or a related field.
    • Spanish speaker


    Responsibilities:

    Teach undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students in introductory prerequisite and program courses in the Bilingual Authorization pathway. The courses are 5 weeks of instruction and finals. Instructor is responsible for building on current CTC approved curriculum and evaluating student learning. Teaching duties include weekly availability for student office hours (remote is acceptable) and maintaining communications with the department chair and program coordinator.

    • A statement describing your experience mentoring and/or working with minoritized students with a special focus on Latinx, Black/African American, Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander and American Indian students, and
    • A teaching philosophy describing how you plan to engage and interact with students, with a special focus on Latinx, Black/African American, Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander, and American Indian students.

    Placement into a range is based on qualifications and experience. Initial assignments are typically at the bottom third of the salary range. The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated in the schedules above are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.
