    General Description and Classification Standards

    Performs inspections of commercial structures and residential, single-family detached structures for compliance with applicable codes and ordinances. Supervision Received Works under very general supervision. May work independently or with other skilled or semi-skilled workers with responsibility for completion of assigned tasks.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned.

    Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following: Inspects the quality of electrical work in the construction, alteration, or repair of commercial, industrial, and residential buildings, and other structures. Checks electrical installation, including fixtures and appliances; examines the grade, treatment, and quality of materials and regulations regarding electrical code compliance and life safety. Completes inspections, writes up reports on each individual job, and as required creates photographic documentation. Reviews permits and plans and examines all construction documents.

    Plans and implements daily inspections schedule; Operates and maintains city vehicle. Evaluates the quality of materials and work relative to applicable electrical codes, ordinances, regulations, and relative to approved plans; issue notices to identify corrections required for compliance or to stop work on projects.

    Responds to verbal and written inquiries from architects, contractors, builders, City personnel, and the general public; interprets, applies, and explains requirements and restrictions related to electrical codes, ordinances, regulations, policies, and procedures; develops alternative methods for compliance with requirements and restrictions. May assist with scheduling appointments and reviewing and approving plans in compliance with applicable electrical codes and ordinances.

    Minimum Qualifications - Education and Experience

    High school diploma or GED. Five years of work experience as an electrical contractor or journeyman electrician (in residential, commercial, industrial and low voltage) is required (or equivalent combination of experience and training).

    Preferred Education & Experience

    Associates degree or vocational training in topics such as electrical wiring, architectural drawing, electricity, building codes and carpentry; continuing education is desirable. Ten years of related work experience is preferred (equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis).

    Licensures and Certifications

    Position would be expected to have licensure or professional certifications appropriate to the position.

    Required: Valid Georgia driver’s license Required: Must have a Residential Electrical Inspector certification from the ICC or International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI).

    Preferred: State of Georgia Electrical Contractor License
