The Department of Public Works - Solid Waste Management Division (SWMD) is looking for a Landfill Operations Inspector who can perform inspection and maintenance of disposal sites to ensure contract and regulatory compliance are met. This position will perform on-site landfill inspection and maintenance of various landfill components, including sanitary landfill construction, landfill covers, leachate collection system, gas collection systems, drainage systems and leachate pumping systems, and water supply and distribution systems. This position also analyzes and makes recommendations concerning the adherence to technical document specifications.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
1) Background: Applicants must successfully pass a background check prior to appointment.
2) Travel: Travel throughout the County is required. A valid California Class C driver license is required at time of appointment and must be maintained. Employees in this class may be required to use personal vehicles and show proof of automobile liability insurance. Mileage reimbursement is available.
3) Physical: Employees regularly walk, stand, bend, squat and occasionally work near equipment on rough, uneven, rocky or slippery surfaces. Employees are exposed to dust, vehicle emissions, noise, odors and extremes in temperature and humidity.
4) Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet ONE (1) of the following options:
Option 1:
Three (3) years of experience as a Scale Supervisor I, Scale Supervisor II, or Engineering Technician II, III, IV or V within the San Bernardino County Department of Public Works Solid Waste Management Division OR equivalent experience.
Option 2:
Three (3) years of experience in the construction and maintenance of Public Works Facilities (roadway, flood, or solid waste), which includes operating heavy equipment and one (1) year of lead or supervisory experience OR equivalent experience.
Option 3:
Two (2) years of experience at a landfill or transfer station, inspecting the operation and maintenance of construction equipment in order to ensure compliance with technical documents and regulatory agency requirements.
Option 4:
Two (2) years of experience operating heavy construction equipment at a landfill/transfer station, which includes one (1) year of lead or supervisory experience.
Substitution : Possession of a Manager of Landfill Operations (MOLO) Certification may substitute for 1 year of the non-lead or non-supervisory experience.
Desired Qualifications
Candidates with MOLO, Class B license, and experience working on a landfill are highly desired.
