DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCES & MATHEMATICS LECTURERPOOL POSITION DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Department of
Sciences and Mathematics of California State University Maritime Academy (Cal Maritime) invites applicants for
Lecturers in Mathematics . Applicants will be expected to teach in-person courses in different areas of the mathematics curriculum serving our seven degree-granting majors, mathematics minor, and our new data science minor. In addition to teaching, duties include holding office hours, preparing materials, grading student works (including homework, reports, quizzes, exams), assessing student learning outcomes for their courses, attending regular coordinated course meetings (if teaching coordinated courses), and submitting final grades. Prior and current materials for courses will be provided. We seek a collegial, dynamic educator committed to creating an environment of active student learning and delivering an equitable experience to students across sections.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: - Teaching a variety of undergraduate mathematics courses, such as College Algebra, Statistics, and Calculus. Link to Course Catalog Descriptions
- Participate in coordination of gateway mathematics activities as applicable.
- Attend all required faculty training sessions and faculty meetings, as directed by Department Chair or Dean.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: - Master’s Degree in Mathematics or Mathematics Education, or a related field.
- An ability to teach a variety of undergraduate mathematics courses.
- A willingness to participate in the coordination of the gateway mathematics program.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: - Ph.D. in Mathematics or Mathematics Education or a related field.
- Relevant teaching experience.
- Applicants demonstrating expertise or experience in serving underprepared students will be given preference.
- A genuine passion for teaching and service is strongly desired.
- Knowledge of innovative and effective classroom teaching methods is also appreciated.
SALARY COMPENSATION: Salary is commensurate with the education, qualifications and expertise of the individual. A full-time unit load for a lecturer is 15 teaching units, also called WTUs, which is typically 4-5 courses. We have 9 units available in Spring 2024 and anticipate equivalent or higher needs in subsequent semesters.
- The salary schedule information for the Lecturer - Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:
- CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer B - AY: $5,925- $12,594 per full-time month
- The anticipated hiring range is commensurate with the education and experience of the selected individual. The hiring salary range for most full-time new lecturers is between $5,925 - $6,250 per month, prorated based on unit load [WTUs]

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: - The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: - Typical classroom and office environment are in a two-story building with elevator access.
