    We offer a competitive salary with bi-annual step increases of approximately 2.5% up to top salary step of $150,030.40 annually.

    The Land Use Services Department (LUS) are recruiting for Supervising Engineers to supervise a section of staff engaged in the major activities of public works and civil engineering projects and perform difficult and specialized engineering work. Positions oversee engineering projects related to review and/or design flood control facilities, solid waste management, highway, traffic, planning and land development projects. Responsibilities include civil engineering design; engineering review, coordinating, developing and constructing projects and other improvement plans; assigning and evaluating work; overseeing studies, plans and specifications; assisting in budget preparation; recommending expenditures; and representing the department at various meetings. Current vacancies exist in the Building & Safety and Land Development divisions. List may be used to fill positions as they arise.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Background: Incumbent must successfully complete a background check prior to appointment.

    Travel: Travel to various sites throughout the County is required; a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be provided at time of hire. Mileage reimbursement is available.

    Physical: This position includes the following demands: frequent sitting; occasional walking, standing, bending, and squatting; fine manipulation in both hands; continuously reach or work below the shoulder level; must frequently demonstrate near vision and occasionally demonstrate far vision; occasionally lift or carry ten (10) pounds or less; occasionally work near equipment and machinery on rough, uneven, rocky, or slippery surfaces; occasionally exposed to dust, gas, toxic materials, noise, and extremes in temperature and/or humidity; occasionally use protective equipment or clothing.

    Minimum Requirements

    License: Must hold current status as a registered Professional Civil Engineer with the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs.

    -AND-

    Meet one of the following options listed below:

    Option 1: Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field. ****
    Experience: Three (3) years of professional experience working as a land development engineer, civil engineer or engineer in a closely related field.

    Option 2:
    Education: Forty-five semester (68 quarter) units in civil engineering or a closely related field. Candidates must provide a list of completed coursework. ****

    Experience: Four (4) years of professional experience working as a land development engineer, civil engineer or engineer in a closely related field.

    Option 3:
    Experience: Five (5) years of professional experience working as a land development engineer, civil engineer or engineer in a closely related field.

    ****Note: Qualifying degrees or coursework must be completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education Degree Equivalency Evaluation: Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied with an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service showing equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.

    Desired Qualifications

    A Bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited school in Civil Engineering is highly desirable.
