The Position Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) is hiring people for part-time, year-round jobs in the Recreation Division! Job Appointment: Casual, Part-Time
Work Schedule: These are part-time positions with flexible hours and may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Work hours can be assigned verbally and depend on enrollment levels, needs of the program, and other factors. There is no guarantee of the number of hours needed each week nor the number of hours worked from week to week. Employees in these positions serve at will.

POSITION SUMMARY
Sports League Staff are responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of each participant enrolled in the program. Applicants must demonstrate leadership, show active participation and enthusiasm on the court or field while serving as a positive role model to all participants and other staff. This position is utilized for our Youth Sports Leagues that are a function of the Sports Office. Examples of these leagues include Saturday Youth Volleyball and Saturday Youth Basketball Goldenball programs.
Saturday Youth Volleyball Season: September 21, 2024 - October 26, 2024
Saturday Youth Basketball Season: December 7, 2024 - March 7, 2025
On-court training teaches basic skills in officiating- no experience necessary! All Sports League Officials are required to complete the Portland Parks and Recreations Sports Officials Training Certification Program. The training is for seven weeks on Saturdays from 8:45am-12:15pm. New Sports Officials will not be paid for training until the hiring process is complete.

PARKS ACTIVITIES SPECIALIST - SPORTS LEAGUE STAFF Position/s: Sports League Staff
The Sports League Staff are responsible for officiating games in a safe and professional manner. Applicants must demonstrate leadership, teamwork, and show active participation and enthusiasm on the court while serving as a positive role model to all participants and other staff.
Sports League Staff: Sports Official
Sports Officials are responsible for ensuring game safety and knowledge of the specific sport rules and supplemental rules as provided by Portland Parks and Recreation. Sports Officials must be able to communicate effectively with our Lead Officials, Event Hosts, and the public. Show active participation and enthusiasm on the court while serving as a positive role model to all participants and other staff.
Locations: Must be able to travel from site to site of the assigned area.
Shift Range: Saturdays 8:30am- 4:30pm
Sports League Staff: Lead Official
Lead Officials are responsible for planning, coordinating, and conducting on-court trainings for Sports Officials. Must have knowledge of current league rules and of the National High School Federation (NHFS) rules. Prior experience mentoring officials is preferred. Ability to schedule officials and assign games in scheduling software, such as RefTown. You must be able to handle conflicts, cancelations and respond to quick game day situations. Lead Officials must be able to provide excellent customer service while working with staff, coaches, parents, and players.
Locations: This position requires traveling to trainings, staff meetings and game sites.
Shift Range: Saturdays 8:30am- 4:30pm. Lead Official meetings occur as needed prior to the season beginning, and occasionally throughout the season and post season.

Wage Range (applicants start at the entry hourly rate):
Parks Activities Specialist: Sports League Staff - Sports Official $31.76 or $36.93 (wage determined by grade level of officiating)
Parks Activities Specialist: Sports League Staff - Lead Official $31.51 ($32.45 for hours training and scheduling other staff)
Training Wage: Training wage is $18.59 for all Sports League Staff positions.
RECREATION ASSOCIATE - ATTENDANT Position/s: Attendant - These positions are union represented.
Attendants monitor Basketball (Goldenball) and Volleyball games in locations throughout the city. Creates welcoming atmosphere, engages with park and facility guests, provides excellent customer service and is a resource for PP&R information. Maintains clean facilities and/or park spaces, monitors use of space and needs of guests, is proactive in addressing potential safety concerns, upholds the PP&R code of conduct, communicates with supervisor, rangers, and security under established guidelines. Monitors participation and completes needed paperwork and record keeping.
Attendant: Event Host
Attendant: Creates welcoming atmosphere. Facilitates event set-up and clean-up and may physically move equipment from space to space. Set up game clock, greet teams and spectators, sign in coaches and referees. Reads Spectator Pledge prior to each game. Works independently to monitor use of space and needs of guests. Is proactive in addressing potential safety, concerns, and upholds the PP&R code of conduct. Basic knowledge of in-season sport, and equipment needed relevant to work site/area.
Locations: Gymnasiums throughout the city.
Shift Range: Saturdays 8:30-4:30
Lead Attendant: Provides support and direction to the Event Hosts. Must be familiar with game site set up and game readiness procedures. Be able to fill in or train an Event Host at a game site at any given time. Re-stock Event Host with supplies. Provide breaks and/or lunch break with-in the assigned area of gyms. Provide good customer service as well as handle difficult people or game time situations on occasion.
Location: Must be able to travel from site to site of the assigned area.
Shift Range: Saturdays 8:30-4:30

Recreation Associate - Attendant $19.52 - $22.78 (entry is $19.52)

Training Wage: The training wage is $19.52 for all attendant positions.
