    General Description

    The primary role of this position is to provide legal services for the City of Atlanta, to include interpretation of laws and regulations, provision of legal advice, preparation and review of legal documentation, management of legal matters, and other legal support as required.

    The attorney provides legal counsel and advice and acts as a key strategic advisor to the Department of Transportation and the Department of Public Works and serves as a liaison between the departments and the Department of Law elevating certain matters that require the attention of the City Attorney. The attorney also assists with delivery of legal advice to the Atlanta City Council on legislation concerning the departmental initiatives.

    Essential Functions

    Provide comprehensive legal services to the Departments of Transportation and Public Works.

    Draft and analyze ordinances, resolutions, and amendments; draft legislative updates regarding newly enacted state laws and opinions; monitor pending legislation.

    Prepare legal opinions on questions of law and procedure.

    Review, analyze, revise and approve contracts and other legal instruments.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Juris Doctorate degree required. Must be a member of good standing with the State Bar of Georgia or have the ability to obtain membership within one (1) year of employment. Must have six (6) to ten (10) years relevant experience.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Experience in municipal, county, and/or constitutional law.

    Knowledge of federal, state and/or local transit rules and regulations.

    Knowledge of transportation planning and public contracting.
