    The Position

    Radiological Technologists operate x-ray equipment to produce radiographs of various anatomical parts as prescribed by a physician; take and develop radiographs; process exposed film; instruct and assist patients during procedure.

    Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

    Technologists adjust radiation equipment at the required angle and height; focus on the appropriate area of the patient's body; measure the thickness of the section to be X-rayed and set machine controls accordingly to produce radiographs of the correct density, detail, and contrast. Technologists prepare radiographs for reading; affix proper identification on each film and process unit for developing, fixing, washing and drying; prepare files for film protection, storage, and retrieval; and route to physician for examination and interpretation. Technologists maintain radiological supplies and equipment; order chemicals and supplies to maintain sufficient inventory; clean cassettes and processor; and make minor adjustments/repairs to X-ray unit to meet safety standards. Technologists perform patient care duties such as taking vital signs, drawing blood, and preparing patients for surgical procedures. Work Shift: Typically, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but extended hours and overtime may be required in cases of emergency.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from a two-year program in x-ray technology and two years of experience working as a radiological technologist; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements Licensure by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.     The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
