ABOUT LOS ANGELES COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES: The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) is the second-largest municipal health system in the nation. Through its integrated system of 25 health centers, four acute hospitals, and an expanded network of community partner clinics - DHS annually provides direct care for 600,000 unique patients, employs over 23,000 staff, and has an annual budget of over $6.9 billion.

ABOUT THE POSITION: DEFINITION:Has responsibility for the administration of a large and diversified psychology program.
Essential Job Functions- Supervises and evaluates staff in applying psychological principles and techniques in the diagnosis and psychotherapeutic treatment of patients.
- Participates in specialized committees and professional staff conferences regarding individual cases under treatment and assists in planning further case treatment and disposition.
- Conducts in-service training sessions for hospital staff on psychological aspects of patient care and supervision of personnel.
- Formulates policies and plans and directs programs in the areas of clinical counseling, social and research psychology.
- Supervises and evaluates clinical psychologists in the initial psychology screening of patients referred by medical staff for treatment in the psychological program; determines the programs required.
- Directs the training of student clinical psychologists.
- Plans, directs and supervises various research projects and makes reports concerning findings.
- Prepares annual budget requests and justifications for the psychology service.
- Plans, directs and supervises vocational and industrial programs to aid in adjustment, rehabilitation and placement of handicapped patients.
- Supervises the administration and interpretation of a variety of objective and projective tests including intelligence, achievement, aptitude, personality and vocational tests.
- Supervises the utilization of appropriate tests and techniques for analysis and remedial treatment of special disabilities, including speech disorders.
- Contacts individuals in private industry in order to gain cooperation in job placement of physically handicapped persons.
- Coordinates with public school administrators to develop programs and facilities in the school and the hospital for the education and rehabilitation of hospitalized physically handicapped children.
RequirementsSELECTION REQUIREMENTS:A Doctorate degree* from an accredited college or university with specialization in a field of psychology followed byfive (5) years' professional experience in the application of psychological techniques**, two (2) years' of which must have included experience in developing, implementing and supervising a psychological program.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Additional points will be awarded for additional experience in developing, implementing and supervising a psychological program in excess of the Selection Requirements.
LICENSE:
A License to practice as a Psychologist issued by the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Psychology.
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

PHYSICAL CLASS II - Light: Light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved.

Additional InformationEXAMINATION CONTENT:This examination will consist of an evaluation of education, experience and desirable qualifications weighted at 100%.
CANDIDATES MUST ACHIEVE A PASSING SCORE OF 70% OR HIGHER ON THE EXAMINATION IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBLE REGISTER. ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:Applications will be processed on an "as-received" basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.
The names of candidates receiving a passing score on the examination will be placed on the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
