  • Job Description

    The City of Weatherford’s Development and Neighborhood Services Department is looking to hire either a Plans Coordinator I, II, III or a Plans Examiner.
    • The Plans Coordinator I will be responsible for the administrative and technical support for the department in confirming the accuracy of building permits and associated plans, calculations, and specifications for regulation compliance.
    • The Plans Examiner performs a variety of professional and technical planning and inspection duties. The position ensures the accurate examination of plans, calculations, and specification accuracy for compliance with all applicable regulations. Ensures compliance with all currently adopted building and code regulations governed and enforced by the Department; this includes but is not limited to extensive knowledge of multi-jurisdictional regulations, departments, and state law. Ensures complete and accurate processing of building permits and applications, and provides timely, accurate and excellent customer service.

    Roles & Responsibilities Include:

    Plans Coordinator I, II, III
    • Completes and processes building permits, applications, and code enforcement complaints; provides code interpretation and explanation of requirement needs.
    • Performs and coordinates electronic plan reviews for minor commercial projects; composes correspondence and answers phone and in-person inquiries.
    • Coordinates electronic plan review for all major commercial and miscellaneous plans with the plan’s examiner; composes correspondence and coordinates answers from the plan’s examiner to the applicant.
    • Prepares, composes, and distributes notices, publications, correspondents, and meeting minutes.
    • Issues building permits and manages case files; manages, and coordinates contractor registration and renewals.
    • Coordinates contractor payments and inspection requests for services.
    • Compiles application forms and researches and collects property ownership/occupancy information.
    • Performs compliance inspections with housing, zoning, environmental health, nuisance, and abatement codes, regulations, and ordinances to ensure compliance with approved plans.

    Plans Examiner
    • Performs digital plan review via use of computer software. Ensures efficient processing of permit applications for compliance with adopted codes and ordinances.
    • Performs and coordinates electronic plan reviews for all residential projects; composes correspondence and answers phone and in-person inquiries.
    • Performs and coordinates electronic plan reviews for all commercial projects; composes correspondence and answers phone and in-person inquiries.
    • Answers questions, distributes forms and provides a variety of information regarding city planning, zoning, and building codes, policies, and procedures to property owners, citizens, architects, engineers, contractors and others in person and over the telephone.
    • Shall possess the ability to communicate effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public and co-workers.
    • Conducts site reviews, evaluations of proposed projects and meets with the public and contractors.
    • Operates a motor vehicle to make on-site inspections of commercial, industrial and residential properties throughout the city
    • Performs compliance inspections with housing, zoning, environmental health, nuisance, and abatement codes, regulations, and ordinances to ensure compliance with approved plans.


    Qualifications

    Plans Coordinator I-High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required; a college degree is preferred. One year of building trade inspection, code enforcement, or planning preferred. Must possess a valid Class C Texas Driver’s License. Must possess an ICC Permit Technician Certification. Must possess or be able to obtain an ICC Residential Building Inspector Certification. Must possess or be able to obtain an ICC Residential Plans Examiner Certification. Bilingual preferred. Plans Coordinator II-High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required; a college degree is preferred. One year of building trade inspection, code enforcement, or planning preferred. Must possess a valid Class C Texas Driver’s License. Must have two years of experience as a Development Clerk, Permit Technician, Plans Coordinator I, or equivalent. Must possess an ICC permit Technician Certification. Must possess an ICC Residential Building Inspector Certification. Must possess an ICC Residential Plans Examiner Certification. Must possess or be able to obtain one additional ICC Certification in inspection or plans exam. Bilingual preferred. Plans Coordinator III-High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required; a college degree is preferred. One year of building trade inspection, code enforcement, or planning preferred. Must possess a valid Class C Texas Driver’s License. Must have two years of experience as a Plans Coordinator I, Plans Coordinator II or equivalent. Must possess an ICC permit Technician Certification. Must possess ICC Residential Building Inspector Certification. Must possess ICC Residential Plans Examiner Certification. Must possess an additional ICC Certification in inspection or plans exam. Must possess or be able to obtain ICC Commercial Building Inspector Certification. Must possess or be able to ICC Building Plans Examiner Certification. Bilingual preferred. Plans Examiner-Must have a high school diploma or GED. Associate or bachelor’s degree in planning, construction, management, architecture, engineering or related field preferred. Three to five years of experience in building inspection, plan review or code enforcement preferred. Must possess a valid Class C Texas Driver’s License. Must possess ICC Residential Building Inspector Certification. Must possess ICC Residential Plans Examiner Certification. Must possess ICC Commercial Building Inspector Certification. Must possess ICC Building Plans Examiner Certification. Must possess or be able to obtain State of Texas Plumbing Inspector License within 18 months of hire. Must possess or be able to obtain ICC certification as a Residential Combination Inspector within 18 months of hire date. Bilingual preferred.
