    Requirements

    MOS CODES: NONE

    Education and Experience : Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Information Systems, Microcomputer Technology, or a related field and two (2) years of wireless/RF network experience or an Associate's Degree in Computer Information Systems, Microcomputer Technology, or as related field and four (4) years of wireless/RF network experience.

    Licenses and Certificates : Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent issued by another state by the time of appointment.

    Special Requirements : Applicants for positions assigned to the Department of Information Technology Services must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check within the first six months from hire and maintain CJIS eligibility. CJIS requirements are related to system access and the following list of convictions and/or deferred adjudications will result in failure of the CJIS background check and disqualification and termination from employment: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor convictions, an open arrest warrant for any criminal offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and family violence convictions.

    General Purpose

    Under direction, supervise, and provide complex technical support for the public safety wireless/RF network.

    Typical Duties

    Provide complex technical support for the public safety wireless/RF network. Involves: Install, monitor, maintain, and optimize all public safety RF software, hardware, and communication links. Document the wireless/RF architecture, design, configuration, and layout; including protocols and standards utilized. Collaborate with management to assess short and long-term communication capacity needs. Design and deploy enterprise-class wireless/RF networks, including access points, servers, routers, hubs, switches, and other hardware. Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, training plans, and usage and disaster recovery of communications networks. Develop and document procedures for maintaining and troubleshooting wireless/RF systems and components. Conduct site surveys to determine optimal locations for wireless/RF access points; ensure access point signals overlap with minimal interference. Install access points in designated locations; inspect connectivity and signal strength where required. Research wireless/RF products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments within the industry. Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end-user mobile hardware, software, and peripheral devices. Practice wireless/microwave asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related technical specification information.

    Supervise assigned staff. Involves: Assign, schedule, guide, and monitor work. Appraise employee performance and review subordinates' appraisals. Provide training and development. Counsel, motivate, and maintain harmony. Identify and resolve staff differences, conflicts, and deficiencies. Interview applicants. Recommend hiring, termination, transfers, discipline, or other employee status changes. Enforce personnel rules and regulations and work behavior standards firmly and impartially.

    Perform related duties as assigned. Involves: Substitute for immediate supervisor or coworkers during temporary absences.
