    The Town of Los Gatos is establishing a pool of qualified Temporary / Seasonal Maintenance Assistant candidates for the Parks and Public Works Department. The pool of qualified candidates will be used for current and future vacancies in the Department.

    The Maintenance Assistant position is a temporary, hourly, at-will, non-benefited position limited to 999 hours of employment in a fiscal year (July 1 through June 30). The work schedule is Saturdays and Sundays, 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., including holidays.

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

    The ideal candidate loves working outdoors in various weather conditions, possesses strong customer service skills and a friendly, approachable demeanor, is flexible and willing to learn new tasks and skills, and can work independently and as part of a team. The ideal candidate will have experience in park maitenance and using hand and power tools.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The position performs hands-on physical labor in keeping park sites, structures, and restrooms clean, safe, and in operable condition. Primary responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

    • Watering trees using a portable water wagon.
    • Trimming and clearing brush by using manual and power tools.
    • Maintaining restrooms, including emptying trash, replenishing bathroom supplies and cleaning floors and fixtures, leaf blowing and sweeping.
    • Maintaining parks and trails. May assist with maintains the Town’s urban forest.
    • Picks up, cleans and removes debris and trash from walkways, picnic areas, recreation areas, and parking lots.
    • Reporting or addressing safety issues.


    Minimum Qualifications

    REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
    Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.

    Education: Completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent.
    Experience: One (1) year of park maintenance or other related work experience.

    License: Valid California Class C driver’s license.
