Position: The department of Business Law at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is seeking a tenure-track faculty member in 2025-2026 at the rank of Assistant Professor.
The successful candidate will teach business law and ethics and have research interests in those areas relevant to our program.
In addition to teaching, the position requires weekly office hours, attending faculty meetings, participation in assessment of student learning, and service to the department, college, and university. The successful candidate may be required to teach on weekdays, evenings, weekends, and/or online and will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which he/she/they is/are housed for recommending tenure and promotion. Given CSUN’s commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and engagement in a diverse environment, the successful candidate will help the Department achieve equitable academic outcomes for all students through teaching, student mentorship, scholarship, and service.
Required Qualifications: - J.D. or J.S.D. from an ABA-accredited law school at time of application
- Admission to a state bar at time of application
- Previous experience and demonstrated excellence in teaching law, business ethics, or related courses at the university level.
- At time of application, the candidate must either have published two law review articles in the past five years in impact journals as listed at Impact Journals (DNCBE) | CSU Northridge, or three law review articles in the past five years in any journal, in areas relevant to our program.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience practicing law
- Business experience
- An LL.M., M.B.A. or other graduate degree in business or economics from an accredited college or university, law review membership, and/or experience as a law clerk at the appellate level.
- Evidence of effective engagement OR potential to engage with a diverse student body
- Experience using culturally responsive pedagogy that leads to equitable outcomes for all students
- Experience creating a student-centered learning environment
- Research/Lab experience that includes working with students from diverse backgrounds
- Experience adopting inclusive approaches to mentoring
- Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively to support the department and the college
Responsibilities: The position involves teaching both undergraduate and graduate-level courses in business law and business ethics and supporting extra-curricular student engagement, which may include overseeing student competitions. Faculty members are expected to employ a variety of teaching strategies to enable students to think analytically and to communicate effectively. Law courses are taught using the Socratic method with its goal of participatory learning and the development of reasoning skills. Additionally, faculty members are expected to engage actively in research and publication in their areas of primary teaching responsibility, maintaining the college’s Scholarly Academic qualification throughout their employment, and provide service to the University and the community.
