    Position Description

    The City of Fresno Public Works Department has multiple temporary seasonal opportunities in our Landscape Maintenance Division. Working a 4 day per week, 10 hour per day work schedule, with weekends off. Individuals receive first-hand experience maintaining landscapes on trails and median islands, and in parks and a wide variety of other City landscapes. Keeping our facilities in top notch shape helps to empower residents to acquire skills, live healthy lives, appreciate the beauty of the central valley, and strengthen community connection!

    Under supervision, Services Aides may perform any of the following duties:
    - Assist with all phases of landscape maintenance including raking, weeding, trimming, plant replacement, and landscape improvements.
    -Working outside along street medians, buffers, as well as in parks and trails
    -Assist maintenance staff with a variety of basic tasks- duties will vary according to job assignment.
    - Clean and sanitize park and trail amenities and remove debris and litter from facilities, landscape features, trails, and parks.
    - Recognize, avoid, and report unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries.
    - Provide information, instructions, and assistance to the public within the scope of authority and training.
    - Support the relationship between the City of Fresno and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff.
    - Perform other duties as required or assigned.

    The Requirements

    Selected individuals will be required to successfully pass a Department interview, a Department of Justice fingerprint and depending on assignment may be required provide proof of Tuberculosis (TB) clearance, prior to employment with the City of Fresno.

    Possession of a valid California Driver's License may be required at the time of appointment. Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver's license and current copy of their driving record.

    Work schedules vary according to specific program operations, assignments and needs.

    Work is performed in an outdoor environment with year-round exposure to varying weather conditions. Work performed is physical in nature that includes frequent standing, bending, squatting, lifting, and working in and around traffic.

    Pursuant to City of Fresno Charter, temporary employment shall not exceed 2,080 hours within 2 fiscal years; and may not exceed 29 working hours per week. Some assignments are considered seasonal and are limited to four months of employment.

    City Government

    Fresno is a full-service charter city operating under a strong mayor form of government. There are seven Council Members. The Council appoints the City Attorney and the City Clerk. The Mayor is elected at- large and does not serve on the Council, but has veto power over certain actions taken by the City Council. The City Manager, who is appointed by the Mayor, is responsible for appointing all other department heads in the City
