    The Network Engineer provides excellent customer service, resolves problems in a timely manner, communicates effectively, and is a positive contributor to the Denton County Technology Services Team.

    Examples of Duties

    Network and Infrastructure Management:
    • Installs, maintains, configures, troubleshoots, and upgrades network equipment (routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, wireless infrastructure, and uninterruptible power supplies).
    • Monitors network performance and optimizes infrastructure for high availability and minimal downtime.
    • Maintains and organizes data centers, communication rooms, patch panels, and cross-connects.
    • Monitors network performance and makes recommendations for improvements.
    • Manages and troubleshoots telecommunication circuits and develops strategies to reduce costs.
    • Develops and implements backup procedures to ensure high availability of network services
    • Designs, installs, labels, and manages indoor and outdoor fiber optic and copper data cabling per county specifications and industry best practices and standards.
    Telecommunication Systems:
    • Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and upgrades telephone systems (telephones, voicemail, call center applications, servers).
    • Integrates voicemail systems with county network and email systems.
    Vendor and Project Coordination:
    • Coordinates and supervises vendors and consultants hired by Denton County.
    • Develops, maintains, and communicates project plans and schedules.
    • Prioritizes requirements and coordinates human and financial resources.
    Documentation and Inventory:
    • Maintains an accurate inventory list and documentation for all network and telephone equipment and related processes.
    • Documents procedures, creates network diagrams, and creates reference documents.
    Security and Compliance:
    • Implements and manages network security measures, including firewalls, network access control solutions, and intrusion detection systems.
    • Follows county policies and best practices related to information security.
    • Protects the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Denton County computer systems and electronic records.
    • Operates as a Denton County cybersecurity champion and promotes a cybersecurity-minded culture.
    • Supports compliance with CJIS, HIPAA, and other information security regulations.
    • Conducts regular network assessments and audits to identify potential vulnerabilities and areas for improvement.
    General Responsibilities:
    • Provides technical support and training to staff on network-related issues and new technologies.
    • Collaborates with staff to integrate network systems with other organizational systems and applications.
    • Stays current with new technologies and industry trends to recommend upgrades and improvements.
    • Participates in disaster recovery planning and testing to ensure network resilience and business continuity.
    • Displays and reflects the culture, mission, vision, values, and direction of the department.
    • Ensures regular and punctual attendance.
    • Performs other related duties as required.


    Minimum Qualifications

    • High School Diploma or GED and a minimum three years of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
    • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
    • Position may require various computer or technical-related certifications.
    • Possession of a valid driver's license required. Must obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of employment.
    • Must not have any Class B misdemeanor or higher convictions or deferred adjudications.
