    CITY OF FORT WORTH

    LATERAL ENTRY OFFICER

    $6,240/monthly* or $74,882/annually* for 3-5 years’ experience

    $6,551/monthly* or $78,618/annually* for 6+ years’ experience

    Requirements:
    • At the time of application, each applicant must be actively employed and in good standing as a full-time paid police officer for a municipal, county or state law enforcement agency.
    • By the date of April 1, 2025 , Applicant must have a total of 3 years of active service for one or more municipal, county, or state law enforcement agencies that has at least 30 sworn police officers and handles a full array of urban police work (i.e., respond to all types of calls for law enforcement services).
    • Applicants who work or worked for an agency that has fewer than 30 sworn police officers will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
    • All current police officer applicants being considered for the Lateral Entry Officers Academy must receive a Texas Peace Officer License by TCOLE, prior to graduation (if they do not already have a Texas license at the time of application) and to be eligible for the intermediate certificate prior to completing their academy course of study. For current police officers licensed out of state - Fort Worth Police will provide the required TCOLE courses and TCOLE exam.
    • Each applicant will be required to pass a background investigation, medical examination, psychological examination, polygraph examination and physical assessment tests.

    Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen at the time of application.

    Age: Applicants must be no less than 20 years, 6 months old and have not reached their 46th birthday at the time they apply.

    License: Must present a valid driver’s license and possess an acceptable driving record.

    Military Service: Must have never received a dishonorable discharge. A copy of your DD214-4 will be required.

    Education: Must have a high school diploma or a GED with at least 12 hours at an accredited institution of higher education.

    Compensation in Addition to Base Pay

    Longevity Pay: $4 per month per the number of years of service with the City of Fort Worth, up to 25 years.

    Education Incentive pay: Up to $300 per month, depending on certification and/or degree held.

    Uniforms: Periodic uniform maintenance allowance provided.

    Bilingual pay: Up to $125 per month upon successful completion of the Language Proficient Tests.

    Benefits That Are Well Worth It

    Medical Program

    The City offers two plan options through Meritain Health, an Aetna company.

    The Health Center Plan – Offers employees and their family’s

    primary health care services that are 100% completely free and unlimited. Employees can visit any one of the three City of Fort Worth Employee Health Centers and receive guaranteed same or next day appointments for sick visits. Also, services are available at any one of the five satellite locations that serves employees across the city.

    The Consumer Choice Plan – Is offered to employees at no cost or low monthly premiums to cover eligible dependents and provides the financial benefits of a Health Savings Account (HSA).

    • Preventative services are covered at 100% on both plans.
    • Prescription Drug coverage including mail order pharmacy are also included.

    Vacation

    Eligible for 3 weeks of vacation: After successful completion of probationary period (usually
    6 months), employees may take time off for rest, relaxation, vacation, illness, religious observances, and personal business.

    Holidays

    Available on the first day of employment, the city provides employees with paid holidays, including two personal holidays.

    Wellness Program

    The city’s Healthy Challenge Wellness Program rewards all full-time, benefit-eligible employees on the city’s health insurance. The Healthy Challenge Program utilizes a points system. Participants may earn points throughout the year (Jan. 1-Dec. 15) for completing specific program activities and participants can redeem points at the end of the year for a cash reward. By participating, individuals can earn $150, $200 or $250 by accumulating program points.
