    Role

    This posting is for an available opening at our Prescott location.

    This is a seasonal position which is on-call or as needed not to exceed 1040 hours per fiscal year.

    Under general supervision, provides for the safety and security of the courtrooms and a variety of office and courtroom support tasks of a routine nature in support of an appointed judge, commissioner, and/or other appointed judicial officer.

    Major Duties, Responsibilities

    • Maintains security and order in the courtroom; assists public, witnesses, attorneys and jurors. Scans courtrooms for contraband and reports any potential security/safety concerns to management.
    • Prepares and submits incident reports as needed and security sweep reports monthly.
    • Provides backup to armed court security staff at public and employee entrances, efficiently operate metal detectors, hand-wands, and x-ray screening machines.
    • Provides security escort services to and from the courtroom as requested, responds to emergencies and implements emergency procedures within the courtroom when appropriate and as directed.
    • Retrieves and manages court files; reviews documents, locates missing paperwork and prepares files for court; uses computer to track files and review case and calendar information.
    • Sets up and maintains courtroom for daily use; prepares information and equipment for jury trials and instruct jurors.
    • Answers phones; makes and distributes copies.
    • Maintains office supply inventory.
    • When traveling, arranges for a county vehicle; loads and unloads files; drives vehicle.
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


    Minimum Qualifications

    Education:
    High school diploma or equivalent.

    Experience:
    A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in court security, law enforcement, military, private security, or closely related field.

    Additional Requirements:
    Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.
    Must successfully complete the Court Security Officer Academy within ninety (90) days of hire.
    Must comply with the Arizona Code of Conduct for Judicial Employees and complete annual training as required by the Arizona Committee on Judicial Education and Training (COJET).

    Knowledge of:
    • Principles and practices of court security, methods, and techniques for providing safety and security and the provisions of providing emergency services.
    • Defensive tactics and application of non-lethal weapons for controlling volatile situations.
    • Business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and composition.
    • Clerical office practices and procedures.
    • Research techniques and report writing.
    • Current Microsoft Office software.
    • Filing and recordkeeping.

    Skill in:
    • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing and communicating orally in a face-to-face setting and by telephone with public and employees.
    • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
    • Organization and adherence to detail.

    Ability to:
    • Prioritize, schedule, and organize work to meet established deadlines.
    • Work under pressure in a highly dynamic work environment with changing demands and priorities.
    • Make good observations, recall facts, and maintain a security awareness of the courthouse facilities.
    • Evaluate and respond to security problems in a swift, effective manner and with appropriate actions.
    • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, County officials, and the public.
    • Keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department.
    • Remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties.
    • Handle confidential matters and maintain discretion always.
    • Act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.

    Work Environment:
    The work environment is associated with an office or courtroom with occasional work outdoors. The work area is adequately lighted, heated or cooled and ventilated. This is a highly public position where contact with the public may be in stressful situations.

    Physical Requirements:
    Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech ability to communicate effective in-person and telephonically. Capable of frequent repetitive movement of arms, fingers, and wrists. Ability to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Performs work that requires good physical strength and condition to apply restraining techniques, defensive tactics, react to physical confrontations and emergency situations, may lift and/or carry people, supplies, equipment and/or other heavy, bulky items. May be exposed to potential physical harm, bloodborne pathogens, and/or physical violence; may be required to physically restrain persons, and effectively deal with stressful and potentially life-threatening emergency situations.
