    Job Summary

    The purpose of this position is to provide support for the development, and coordination of infrastructure and right-of-way projects and to inspect construction sites. In addition this position will perform inspections necessary to fulfill requirements identified in the City's Stormwater Management Program.

    This is a continuous recruitment and open until filled. Qualified individuals are encouraged to apply as soon as possible for the first consideration.

    Hiring Salary Range: $48,630.40 - $62,004.80, depending on qualifications.

    Full Salary Range: $48,630.40 - 75,379.20

    FLSA Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

    Examples of Duties

    • Ensures construction sites are remaining within limitations of approved plans by conducting on-site inspections to ensure compliance with City standards and plan specifications; consulting with contractors, developers, owners, and other city departments; and conducting field surveys of City and private development construction sites to ensure compliance with local, state, and other regulatory requirements.
    • Conducts annual inspections by performing a physical inspection on site of private developments' Stormwater Control Measures (SCM); ensuring that the development is in compliance with all proper operation and maintenance regulations; communicating with the owner with inspection results or notification of re-inspection if needed; and filing all paperwork from inspections.
    • Aids the City by providing education to the public at schools, clubs, and fairs.


    Minimum Qualifications

    Education and Experience:
    • High school diploma supplemented with college courses in related engineering topics (an associate's degree in engineering technology or related field is preferred); and
    • One to three years of related experience.

    Preferred Certification:
    • Stormwater BMP Inspection and Maintenance Certification or similar certification

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of mathematics and routine engineering calculations;
    • ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks of average difficulty;
    • ability to work cooperatively with City officials, other employees, and the general public
    • ability to work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.

    Special Requirements

    Valid North Carolina driver's license and acceptable driving record.
