    Full-time position available with the Parks & Recreation Department, Community Services Division located at 4600 E. 3rd St.
    Salary Range: $27.25-$40.88/hour
    Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., some nights & weekends.

    Responsibilities

    • Create, implement, and evaluate accommodations for individuals with disabilities when participating in traditional recreation programs and events including, but not limited to, program adaptations, outside supports, and behavior plans.
    • Trains, advises, and/or audits adaptive and inclusive recreation programming staff to ensure proper development, promotion, implementation of diversified recreation programs and services for individuals with disabilities of all ages in accordance with community needs.
    • Evaluates program effectiveness; recommends changes and implements management decisions.
    • Reviews, compiles, and submits all program proposals for approval by the facility supervisor.
    • Oversees the activities of staff and volunteers.
    • Plans, assigns, trains, directs, and monitors staff duties.
    • Provides input to supervisor for employee performance evaluations.
    • Serves as a liaison and resource for community agencies and other organizations.
    • Assists supervisor with program budget development and management.
    • Performs administrative tasks, such as attending and scheduling meetings, preparing reports, monitoring expenditures, and maintaining records.
    • assists in developing and implementing policies, procedures, and staff training for program areas.
    • Receives and responds to questions and concerns from patrons.
    • Responsible for custodial, event, class, program field, and facility logistics.
    • Provides communication and written documentation regarding all adaptive and inclusive recreation program areas and facility activities, including, but not limited to, damages, problems, needs, issues, and compliance with rental agreements, policies, and procedures.
    • Monitors inventory, submits supply order requests, and maintains purchase records within authorized budget.
    • Maintains records and completes required reports.
    • Works collaboratively with internal and external customers.
    • Assists with Department special events as needed.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.



    Qualifications

    REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, public administration or other area of specialization and one 1 year professional experience of a progressively responsible nature in organized recreation activities at the level of Recreation Director; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience. Must pass a preemployment drug screen as prescribed by the City. Preference given for Therapeutic Recreation degree and/or has their CTRS Professional Certification.

    Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

    The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
    For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
    Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

    If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
