    Join Our Engineering Team as a Civil Engineer in Training!

    Are you passionate about building a sustainable future and solving complex engineering challenges? We're looking for a Civil Engineer in Training to bring fresh ideas, innovative solutions, and a drive for excellence to our dynamic team!

    The purpose of this position is to review building permits, civil engineering plans, drainage studies, and other engineering-related plans and permits associated with private development projects. Reviews will be done under the supervision of the Development Review Coordinator/Engineer. This is accomplished by reviewing civil engineering plans for public infrastructure ensuring all design criteria, specifications, and requirements are met. This position coordinates with developers and consultants and requires basic knowledge of water, wastewater, storm drain and floodplain. Other duties include attending meetings with applicants, coordinating and interacting with Private Development DRC Engineer, Private Development Construction Manager, and other City employees and citizens.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Administers project management by providing designing input; reviewing plans; working with consultants.

    • Coordinates engineering design on paving, drainage, water, and sewer by reviewing existing project conditions, ROW, and utilities; evaluating calculations for storm drainage and sanitary sewer capacities.

    • Conducts plan reviews of private development and coordinates timely response to plans with other departments.

    • Provides citizen assistance by answering citizen questions by phone or in person; and performing occasional site visits.

    • All other duties as assigned by a supervisor/manager within your department/division.

    • Regular and dependable attendance is required.


    Minimum Qualifications

    • Education: Work requires specialized knowledge in a professional or technical field. Work requires professional level of knowledge of a discipline equivalent to that which is acquired in a bachelor’s degree-level of study, in engineering.

    • Experience: Over three years. This time may be made up of a combination of assisting a professor with research, undergraduate capstone projects related to civil engineering, internships, and general work experience.

    • Licenses: Valid Texas Class C Driver's License

    • Certifications Required: Texas Engineer in Training (EIT) Certificate (or ability to get within 12 months) and Certified Floodplain Manager (or ability to get within 12 months)
