    Industrial Fire Instructor

    Full-Time

    College Station, TX

    $5,833.34/month

    General Summary:

    The Industrial Fire Instructor is responsible for providing training in various courses for the Industrial Private Sector Program. Training may be performed online, classroom instruction, field-based skills training, and/or technical assistance. Utilizes their knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles to maximize learner success and ensure overall effectiveness of the course instruction. Course material is presented using a variety of media. To meet learner needs, the Instructor is responsible for modifying course curriculum, when necessary. Maintains skills and a knowledge base adequate to meet current and future instructional requirements. Required to supervise and evaluate student performance as well as competently discuss procedures and techniques and regulations and apply all safety measures. This position reports to the Industrial Program Training Manager.

    Required Qualifications:
    • High school diploma or GED.
    • Four years of industrial firefighting response, such as experience in an industrial plant fire brigade, industrial fire response as a municipal/volunteer firefighter, or military firefighter.
    • One year of experience in adult education and/or training.


    Required License/Certifications:
    • Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
    • Must have a Class “B” CDL License or ability to obtain within one year employment.
    • Must have a valid passport or ability to obtain within one year of employment.


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Associate's or higher degree from an accredited university or college; degree in a related field.
    • Five years’ experience in an industrial plant fire brigade.
    • Six years of industrial firefighting response, such as experience in an industrial plant fire brigade, industrial fire response as a municipal/volunteer firefighter, or military firefighter.
    • TEEX industrial fire training support experience.
    • Two years of experience in developing and delivering emergency response training.
    • NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor I and II Certification.
    • NFPA 1081 Interior and Exterior Certification.


    Physical Requirements:
    • Physical conditioning consistent with wearing hazardous materials Personal Protective Equipment.
    • Ability to lift and/or move heavy objects and/or wear personal protective gear during instruction.
    • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions during instruction.


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Advanced working knowledge in a specialty area.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
    • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
    • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.


    Equipment:
    • Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone.


    Notifications:
    • This position is security sensitive.
    • This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
    • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
    • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.
    • As part of TEEX’s mission of providing training, developing practical solutions, and saving lives; this position could be required, if called upon, to deploy within the State of Texas as directed by this position’s Division Director/HQ Department Head.
    • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal or TEEX vehicle and/or flying on commercial airlines.
    • Employment in this role is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and will also be subject to random drug screening per DOT regulation.
    • This position requires domestic and international travel.


    Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:

    Course Instruction - 60%
    • Arrives no less than 1 hour before the course is scheduled to begin.
    • Follows approved curriculum course outline and timelines.
    • Performs all course exercises as explained by instructor guide.
    • Determine course goals and objectives.
    • Uses a variety of techniques for presenting course material.
    • Develops instructional techniques to accommodate diverse learning styles.
    • Initiates and maintains interactive classroom discussions.
    • Provides positive reinforcement and motivational incentives.
    • Monitors learner performance.
    • Evaluates and assesses instructional effectiveness.


    Additional Support and Instruction - 20%
    • Schedules, coordinates, and conducts Industrial Private Sector hand-off, field delivery courses, assigns area schools and other courses as assigned.
    • Assists with Annual Schools and/or other special schools/activities.


    Course Development and Review - 10%
    • Modifies or develops course content to meet changing needs and objectives, includes visuals and handout materials.
    • All changes will be in cooperation with the curriculum, certification, and evaluation group.


    Other Duties - 10%
    • Maintains a clean and neat appearance.
    • Submits class reports, and travel documentation.
    • Submits weekly reports and all associated documentation on time.
    • Attends all called meetings unless dismissed by supervisor Interacts professionally with External/Internal customers.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
