    The City of Petaluma is seeking a collaborative, innovative, and forward-looking candidate to serve as the next Public Works Director. The Public Works Director manages, oversees, directs, and integrates the activities and operations of the Public Works Department, including engineering, development engineering, streets operations, fleet, streetlights, Right-of-Way landscape maintenance and operations, capital improvement program planning and implementation, traffic engineering and planning, floodplain administration, and local transit, marina, and airport operations. The new Public Works Director must have knowledge of the principles and practices of public works systems and services, operations, engineering, airports, marinas, transit systems, and property management and leases. A strategic thinker who is interested in shaping the Department based on the City’s values and mission, is desired. The successful candidate offers cohesiveness, builds trust, and leads the team as a whole.

    The annual salary for the Public Works Director is $187,237.08 to $242,967.36. An additional up to 3.0% base wage increase effective no later than the first full pay period following July 1, 2025. Placement within this range is dependent on experience and qualifications. The City also offers an excellent benefits package.
