DescriptionThe selected candidate may be eligible for the following recruitment incentives*
- Up to $6,000 to be paid in equal installments for the first twenty-six (26) consecutive biweekly pay periods in the position.
- Up to $6,000 relocation expense reimbursement for moving expenses for the candidate’s household, including pets, when the candidate's primary residence is more than one hundred (100) miles from the assigned work location using the shortest commonly traveled route.

DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION The

Department of Transportation is responsible for funding, designing, building, operating, and maintaining the County Road System. El Dorado County's Road System currently consists of approximately 1083 centerline miles of paved roadway, 76 bridges, a multitude of storm drainage systems, and related transportation facilities.
DEVELOPMENT AND TRANSPORTATION DIVISION
The ideal Sr. Civil Engineer candidate in the Land Development and Transportation Planning Group will possess a valid California registration as a Civil Engineer, be well-versed in the Subdivision Map Act, and have familiarity with development services and traffic modeling for commercial and residential development projects.
THE OPPORTUNITY The selected candidate will have the opportunity to: - Review incoming project applications for consistency with County policies, standards, and planning documents, including placing Conditions of Approval on behalf of the Department.
- Review improvement plans, specifications, and engineering estimates for developer-driven projects, providing comments and approvals as appropriate.
- Visit active construction sites to inspect ongoing work for consistency with approved plans, best management practices, and stormwater pollution prevention.
- Coordinate reimbursable projects, including executing reimbursement agreements, overseeing bid process to ensure compliance with state Contract Codes, and reviewing submitted reimbursement requests and expense reports for completeness and accuracy.
- Plan, organize, train, review and evaluate the work of assigned staff; set priorities and follow up as required.
- Participate in the hiring of assigned staff, recommending selection for management approval, evaluating employee performance, and directing training and education opportunities.
- Prepare periodic status reports regarding the assigned area of responsibility.
- Assist in the development and control of the unit budget.

Where college degrees and/or college course credits are required, degrees and college units must be obtained from a regionally accredited college or university. Courses from non-regionally accredited institutions will not be evaluated for this requirement.
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in civil engineering;
AND Two years of lead or project management experience in public works design and construction engineering work at a level equivalent to the County's Associate Civil Engineer.
Other Requirements
- Must possess a valid California Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer (or if registered in another state, obtain licensure in California by comity (reciprocity) within the one-year probationary period.)
- Must possess a valid driver's license.

This recruitment will establish a list for the purpose of filling current and future full time, part time, limited term and extra help vacancies for at least three (3) months. In accordance with Personnel Rules 1103.1 and 1105.1, an extra help or limited term employee may be transitioned into a regular employee if the department in which the employee works has a vacant allocated position for the same classification as held by the extra help or limited term employee and the appointing authority requests such transfer.
