    Economic Development Office

    12 Months, Full-Time

    Non-Exempt, Pay Grade 33

    Job Summary:

    The Economic Development Office is hiring a Management Analyst III to support the critical functions of the office. This position is the backbone of the office, supporting the financial aspects of the office, analyzing key economic and performance metrics, administering the Economic Development Authority and coordinating special projects.

    Albemarle County’s Economic Development Office has a mission to enhance the County’s competitive position and result in quality job creation and career employment opportunities, increased tax base, enhanced natural resources and community character, and an improved quality of life for all residents.

    Essential Functions:
    • Manages office financial information and transactions, including processing payments, incentive agreements, purchase orders and office budget management.
    • Tracks and analyzes economic and performance data to inform the work of the office and prepares summary reports and graphics to inform key stakeholders.
    • Administers grants received and granted by the Office, including performance and milestone tracking.
    • Support the Economic Development Authority administration, including document preparation, legal filings, and logistics.
    • Supports the day-to-day operations of the office.
    • Responsible for completion of complex administrative and technical assignments; prepares correspondence for department and manages internal and external inquiries, including a wide variety of reports, letters, and memos; independently composes correspondence related to responsibilities assigned.
    • Prepares, updates, and assists in the publication of various types of graphic materials, charts, plans, reports, brochures, etc.
    • Provides essential back-up support to the Business Development Manager to ensure seamless coverage of duties if required, by maintaining a thorough knowledge of departmental functions, organization, and policies.

    Competency: Knowledge/ Skills/Abilities:
    • Familiar with modern data analysis and visualization strategies and mastery of advanced data analysis and visualization software such as PowerBI, Rstudio, etc.
    • Passion for empowering internal and external peers/clients with their data access needs.
    • Proven track record of designing creative and appealing visuals, reports, and interactive dashboards.
    • Ability to work effectively on multiple priorities with strict deliverable timelines.
    • Experience in data modeling with strong and demonstratable data management skills.
    • Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning with a high proficiency in optimization.
    • Advanced computer skills in typical corporate software applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
    • Excellent written and communication skills.
    • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment with multiple internal stakeholders (e.g. other divisions and departments).

    Required Education and Experience:
    • At least 3-5 years working in an office setting with related work experience.

    Preferred Qualifications/Certifications:
    • Prefer a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, business, Economics, or a related field.
    • Prefer 5-8 years of relevant work experience.

    Physical and Mental Requirements:
    • Work is typically performed in an office, computer room, and/or conference rooms.
    • Continuous ability to communicate by phone is necessary.
    • Regular use of keyboards, computers, etc. is necessary.
    • Regular contact is made with internal departments and senior persons at all levels of County government. Contacts are usually cooperative, however, require tact and diplomacy.
    • External contacts with vendor companies and other information services agencies are necessary.
    • Occasional need to perform urgent tasks to meet organizational deadlines.
    • Frequent work activity after normal duty hours and occasional weekend duties are necessary.

    Remote Work:

    This position is eligible for a hybrid remote work schedule that is in compliance with the County’s Remote Work Policy and meets the operational and service needs for the position. All County staff must maintain residence within the Commonwealth of Virginia.

    The Salary Range:

    The hiring range for this position is $33.98 - $37.56 per hour (approx. $70,682 - $78,122 per year). Starting offer is based on applicable education beyond minimum requirements and internal equity. The position also provides excellent benefits including 12 paid holidays, paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance options with employer contribution, employer-paid life insurance, VRS retirement, and continuing education/training opportunities. This is a full time, FLSA non-exempt position. Internal candidates will receive pay adjustments in accordance with Local Government Personnel Policy, §P-60.
